You’ve probably caught wind of the buzz surrounding “ Austin,” the catchy track by rising country artist Dasha.
But how did this fresh face on the country scene manage to capture so much attention?
Well, it turns out, that country legend Keith Urban played a significant role in her journey, and let’s just say, it’s a story you won’t want to miss.
In a recent interview, Dasha was asked one of the most intriguing questions: which country star helped kickstart her career? With excitement, Dasha shared her story.
“Keith Urban did. I got to perform for him at Spotify House during CMA Fest . It was an unbelievable experience. The day he texted me, I was blown away. He wrote, ‘Hey Dash,’—he actually called me D—’Hey D, it’s Keith (Urban).'”
Dasha couldn’t help but laugh as she recounted the moment. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I know who you are, no need for the last name, humble king.’
It was such a surreal moment because, I mean, it’s Keith Urban! How many people get a personal text from him?”
Keith Urban is known for his supportive and sometimes surprising texts.
Fans might recall another memorable text he sent to Lainey Wilson , inviting her to collaborate on “Go Home W U.”
It’s clear that Urban has a knack for recognizing talent and reaching out in the most genuine ways.
“Keith has been amazing and so supportive,” Dasha continued. “He was thrilled to play ‘Austin’. Watching him ripping on the guitar during the song was incredible. He brought so much energy and passion.”
Dasha couldn’t stop gushing about Urban’s musical talents and character.
“Keith has an incredible ear for music. His taste is so sophisticated. He just gets it. Plus, he’s a genuinely good guy who really understands the industry and still loves it after all these years. That kind of passion is rare.”
Dasha, whose birth name is Anna Dasha Novotny, entered the world on February 27, 2000, in San Luis Obispo, California.
She started her musical journey early. Dasha was just 13 years old when she released her first-ever song.
However, she made her mark with the single “ Don’t Mean a Thing ” under Famouz Records in April 2020, and soon after, she signed with Quadio Records.
Her 2021 EP, $hiny Things, included popular tracks like “ None of My Business ,” “ $hiny Things,” and “ 21st Birthday.”
In the years following, Dasha kept the momentum going with more singles that led up to her debut album Dirty Blondein 2023.
Her shift to country music with “Austin” was a game-changer, landing her on the Billboard Hot 100’s top twenty by June 2024 and achieving international success.
In February 2024, she dropped her second full-length album, What Happens Now?, and later that year, in June, she signed a deal with Warner Records.
Dasha rocked her debut at the CMT Music Awards on April 7, 2024, performing her hit “Austin.”
She dazzled in a custom leopard-print gown on the Moody Center stage in Austin, Texas.
Before the show, Dasha chatted on the red carpet, calling the performance her biggest yet. “I’m thrilled to be here and show everyone what I’ve got. It’s like being a rookie at CMT, but I’m ready!”
Dasha was thrilled to visit Austin for the first time and couldn’t contain her excitement after the performance .
“It’s my first time in Austin!”she exclaimed into the mic, sharing her enthusiasm for artists like Sam Hunt and Jelly Roll performing at the event.
Dasha’s musical journey began at a young age.
“It was when I was 8 years old and I wrote my first song . My dad was kind of like my first manager. So, I was 10, playing these coffee shop gigs, winery shows, all that stuff. I released my first song when I was 13. That was actually the moment, when I released…it’s all I ever wanna do with my life, and we’ve been chasing it since then, and finally, it’s working out,”
Dasha shared on the red carpet. Her latest project, What Happens Now? , is an 8-track debut country album released in February 2024, featuring “Austin” and other highlights.
“It’s just been crazy with my album dropping and Austin blowing up at the same time. I’m just so happy that people get to hear my true artistry with this body of work coming out, and it’s been great.”
With Keith Urban’s encouragement and her hit song “Austin” gaining popularity, Dasha’s future in country music looks incredibly promising.
Thanks to Urban’s mentorship, she’s well on her way to stardom.
And who knows? In time, Dasha might be the one sending those career-changing texts to new artists looking for their big break.
One thing is certain: with her talent and Urban’s backing, Dasha is a name we’ll be hearing for a long time.
