Even for beloved stars like Lainey Wilson , rowdy fans can make concerts unpredictable—and sometimes downright unpleasant.
In a recent interview, Wilson opened up about an incident that would make anyone cringe: a fan spit on her while she was performing.
But in true Lainey fashion, she handled it with both grace and humor.
Keep reading for more details!
In today’s concert scene, it’s not uncommon to see fans behaving badly.
Whether it’s tossing phones, water bottles, or even boots on stage, some concertgoers have become notorious for their disruptive antics.
While most fans are there to enjoy the music and support their favorite artists, there’s always a handful that crosses the line—either due to too many drinks or just plain disrespect.
Country artists, in particular, have had to deal with some of the most bizarre onstage interruptions. And unfortunately for Lainey Wilson, one of these moments involved a fan who spat on her mid-performance.
During her appearance on Taste of Country Nights On Demand , hosted by Evan Paul, Wilson was asked about a particularly tough moment in her career.
The conversation turned to a story about fellow country star Hardy, who was once humiliated when someone wrote “quit” on a napkin and left it in his tip jar.
Paul wanted to know if Wilson had ever experienced a similarly discouraging event, and her response left fans both shocked and impressed.
Taking a deep breath before diving in, Lainey shared, “Last year, during my headlining tour , somebody spit on me—on stage.”
It’s hard to imagine how anyone could do such a thing, especially at a concert where fans have paid good money to see her.
But that’s exactly what happened, and Wilson didn’t hold back in describing how surreal the moment was.
While most people might lose their cool in a situation like that, Lainey managed to keep her composure.
“I thought about getting down there and finding whoever it was,” she admitted, chuckling at the memory, “but I didn’t. I kept rolling.”
Her ability to laugh about the moment shows just how grounded she is, even when faced with such disrespect.
Wilson didn’t dwell on the negativity. Instead, she kept the show going, embodying the phrase “the show must go on.”
Reflecting on the incident, Wilson said, “First of all, I was like, ‘Why in the world would you buy a ticket and then go spit on somebody?’”
It’s a valid question—and one that leaves most people scratching their heads.
But rather than harboring anger, Lainey showed compassion, offering a possible explanation: “They could have just been drunk and being silly.”
Lainey didn’t just let the story fade into awkward silence.
In typical Wilson fashion, she added a bit of levity by describing the spit’s flight path.
“It was weird,” she recalled with a laugh. “I saw it coming through the air. It was like I made eye contact with the spit, and then it just lands on me.”
Fans couldn’t help but laugh along as she sang a line from her hit song, “Heart Like a Truck,” as if to demonstrate her reaction to the whole ordeal.
Despite the bizarre incident, Wilson’s quick wit and upbeat attitude turned a disgusting moment into something laughable—and relatable.
Lainey Wilson has proven time and time again that she’s not only a powerhouse performer but also someone who can handle anything that comes her way with class.
From her heartfelt performances to her genuine interactions with fans, she continues to show why she’s the reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year.
This incident, as gross as it was, is just another example of how unpredictable life on the road can be for artists.
And while Lainey could’ve easily lashed out, she chose to take the high road—proving that her talent isn’t just in her voice but in her character as well.
As she continues to dominate the country music scene, fans can expect many more stories from Lainey, though hopefully, none as unsavory as this one!
Whether it’s handling a rude fan or belting out hit after hit, Lainey Wilson keeps showing that she’s made of tough stuff, with a heart as big as her songs.
