Meghan Markle left acting and Hollywood once she started dating Prince Harry. And unfortunately, she won’t be making a return to the spin-off series either.

Even though Meghan Markle has departed acting since 2017, her association with the nine-series show has kept her in the conversation. Suits recently experienced a massive resurgence in 2023.

Recently, the news came out that BBC has acquired all nine seasons of the hit American drama. The three titles, the mockumentary St. Denis Medical, Best Man Films, and The Best Man: The Final Chapters have been acquired from NBCUniversal Global Distribution.

Eight months after the acquisition of NBC and BBC, the networks announced the new spin-off series, Suits: LA. The series is set to premiere this upcoming February.

Why the Spinoff Now?

Suits became the most-watched series on Netflix in 2023. After being added to the streaming platform, Suits once again gained an entirely new audience, with fans discovering and re-discovering this gripping series.

The sudden surge in popularity hinted at the need for something similar in sharp writing, wittiness, and intense courtroom battles. NBCUniversal saw an opportunity, and they decided to leverage it.

Original Series Overview

Suits originally aired from 2011 to 2019, delivering top-notch performances and an engaging storyline with gripping plot twists. The atmosphere of the series revolves around the tension-filled and high-pressure environment of Pearson Hardman.

The show at its core follows Harvey Specter played by Gabriel Macht, and Mike Ross portrayed by Patrick J. Adams. The show perfectly balances personal relationships, legal corporate dialogues, and ethical dilemmas.

Suits: LA Main Plot

The spinoff Suits: LA brings to the table a fresh perspective to the legal drama. The new series is set to revolve around Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York.

Ted’s job would be to represent the most influential clients in Los Angeles. The synopsis says, “Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.”

The one and only Stephen Amell, best known for his role as Oliver Queen in Arrow, is cast to take the lead role of Ted Black in Suits: LA. The 43-year-old actor is an exceptional one, and the fans are excited to see him on screen.

Amell said in an interview with Deadline regarding the series, “I was just excited to go do an in-person audition for the first time in like eight years. I went into it without a ton of expectations because you never know what they’re going to be looking for.”

Additional Cast Members

The spin-off series has a diverse cast, with only the best nominated for their respective roles. We’ve got Lex Scott Davis (The First Purge), Troy Winbush (National Treasure: Box of Secrets), Brayn Greenburg (One Tree Hill), Alice Lee (My Adventures with Superman), and Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead).

The cast without a doubt is a stellar one, each known for their exceptional performances. All these added roles are going to further add depth to an already intriguing story.

Franchise Roots

All those worried that the spin-off series will not have the original’s touch or wouldn’t be as good as Suits was should take a sigh of relief because Suits: LA has Aaron Korsh as the creator once again. Korsh joined the writers for the first season of Suits: LA.

He also played the role of executive director alongside David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, Anton Cropper, Genevieve Sparling, Rick Muirragui, and Jon Cowan. The writer is adamant about adding the same high-stakes components and interpersonal dynamics.

What About Patrick J. Adams?

Even though no official announcement has been made regarding the return of Mike, aka Patrick J. Adams, he has expressed his willingness to be back on the show. At the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, the actor stated, “Whatever the case, our fearless Aaron is working on it.”

“And if we get the call, if I get the call, I’m ready to get dressed.” He then went on to say, “I love the show, I love the character. And I’ve loved working with all these people.”

Gabriel Macht in Guest Role

Gabriel Macht, former Suits star, who played the famous role of Harvey Specter, is going to make a comeback to the spinoff series in a guest role. He will be reprising his role as Harvey Specter in Suits: LA.

Macht in the original series was one of the main characters and was present throughout the nine seasons. His stellar performance and dialogue won the hearts of many.

Fan Reactions

Fans loved all the nine seasons of the original series and they’re all set to go crazy over the spin-off one too. People are ready to see Oliver Queen aka Stephen Armell take on the role of a lawyer.

One fan commented, “Oliver Queen is now in a timeline where he’s a lawyer, so he gets to say to others you have failed at being a good lawyer .” Another went on to say, “Finally, a show people want to actually see come back!”

Expectations From the Spin-off

The public has given their verdict and its main priority is nothing but to see Donna and Harvey as a happy couple. The couple’s relationship officially began in season 8 with them marrying shortly after dating.

For the viewers, their happy ending was a bit rushed. Hence, they’re demanding Gabriel Macht’s reappearance alongside Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulson).

NBC’s new spin-off series took the internet by storm with its teaser that was uploaded on 23rd November 2024. Published on YouTube, the teaser shows Ted Black all suited up with other main cast members.

The office is set against the LA background, with the original theme song playing in the background.
