Paris Hilton , at 43, has been a household name for decades, but behind the glitz and glamour of her public life, she’s been battling something much more personal: ADHD.
In a recent personal essay for Teen Vogue , Paris opened up about her lifelong struggles with ADHD and how it’s impacted her both as a child and now as an adult.
Keep reading for more details!
As a kid, Paris says she was always labeled as “too energetic, too distracted, too talkative—just too everything.”
These traits, combined with struggles in a school that couldn’t accommodate her needs, eventually led to her parents sending her to Provo Canyon School, a facility for troubled teens.
Reflecting on her childhood , she shared, “I wish someone had asked, ‘What’s really going on with her?’ Instead, I spent years feeling misunderstood and punished for the way my brain worked.”
It wasn’t until Paris was much older that she was officially diagnosed with ADHD.
While getting the diagnosis provided some clarity, she admits it was initially hard to come to terms with.
“At first, being diagnosed felt like a label,” she said, “something that boxed me in, defining me by what I couldn’t do.”
She worried about how people might perceive her—whether they’d think she was too scattered or unfocused to be successful.
But over time, she began to see things differently.
Paris now views her ADHD not as a limitation but as a secret weapon that’s helped her succeed.
In fact, she calls it her “superpower.”She credits it with giving her the creativity to build her empire and the drive to keep pushing boundaries.
“My brain doesn’t follow a straight line—it zigzags and explores uncharted territory, allowing me to break boundaries and stay ahead of the curve,” she explained.
She believes that her ability to hyper-focus on her passions has been key to her success, both professionally and personally.
But Paris is quick to point out that ADHD isn’t all about creativity and energy. It can be incredibly exhausting, too.
“Let’s be real: ADHD can be overwhelming and exhausting because my mind is constantly buzzing with thoughts, ideas, and distractions,” she admitted.
“People often see the glamorous, successful side of me, but behind the scenes , there are days when the noise inside my head can be so loud that it’s difficult to find clarity.”
Paris is using her platform to help change the way ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions are perceived.
She’s calling for an end to the stigma that surrounds ADHD, urging people to stop labeling it as a disorder and instead recognize the unique strengths that come with it.
“We live in a world where we’re often expected to fit into boxes and do things the way everyone else does,” she said.
“But my ADHD has taught me that the most magical things happen when you break free from those expectations.”
Paris has even celebrated her journey with ADHD in her latest album Infinite Icon , which she released in September 2024.
One of the songs, titled “ADHD,” is all about embracing her neurodivergence and encouraging others to do the same.
“It’s a celebration of my journey and a message to others that ADHD is something to be embraced, not hidden,” Paris explained.
“I want people, especially young women, to know that being different is beautiful, and your ‘flaws’ can actually be your greatest assets.”
To anyone else out there struggling with ADHD or feeling out of place because of their differences, Paris has one message : you are not alone.
“Embrace your differences because they are what makes you unstoppable,” she said.
Through her story, Paris hopes to inspire others to see their ADHD not as something that holds them back, but as something that makes them unique, strong, and capable of anything.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults.
It is characterized by symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.
People with ADHD often find it difficult to focus on tasks, stay organized, or manage time effectively, while also experiencing restlessness and a need for constant mental stimulation.
While the exact cause of ADHD isn’t fully understood, it is believed to involve genetic, neurological, and environmental factors.
Treatment typically includes behavioral therapy, lifestyle adjustments, and sometimes medication to help manage symptoms, allowing individuals to navigate daily challenges better.
October, ADHD Awareness Month highlights the importance of understanding and supporting those living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
In the U.S., around 8.4% of children and 2.5% of adults are affected by ADHD, which is marked by challenges with inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.
These symptoms can make daily tasks more difficult.
To raise awareness, Paris Hilton, who also has ADHD, has shared her personal journey in a Teen Vogue essay.
By opening up about her own experiences, she hopes to inspire others with the condition.
