Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are gearing up to team up once again, this time in a non-Marvel project.
After the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine , which saw the two actors reprise their iconic roles as Wade Wilson and Logan, Reynolds has announced he’s working on a new project that will bring the duo together with director Shawn Levy.
Keep reading for more details!
Reynolds, known as much for his quick wit as for his acting skills, revealed in an interview with Variety that he’s dedicating the next year to writing this new movie.
“ I’m spending the year writing,” he told Variety .
Reynolds didn’t spill too many details but did confirm that he’s crafting the screenplay for himself, Jackman, and Levy—a powerhouse team that fans are eager to see reunite on screen.
After their record-breaking team-up in Deadpool & Wolverine , which has become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, fans are excited to see what Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will bring to their next project together.
Deadpool & Wolverine , a 2024 American superhero film featuring Marvel’s iconic Deadpool and Wolverine characters, took the box office by storm, grossing over $1.34 billion worldwide in just a few weeks.
Produced by Marvel Studios, Maximum Effort, and 21 Laps Entertainment, and directed by Shawn Levy, the film marked a historic first as the only R-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to date.
The story follows Deadpool as he joins forces with a reluctant Wolverine to stop a powerful organization, the Time Variance Authority, from destroying his universe.
The film’s overwhelming success — both critically and financially — solidified Reynolds and Jackman as one of the most entertaining duos on screen.
Now, with that momentum behind them, Reynolds has announced his plans to reunite with Jackman and director Shawn Levy for a brand-new movie, one that steps outside the Marvel realm and will offer fans a fresh take on the pair’s dynamic chemistry.
Reynolds, who confirmed he will be writing the script over the coming year, teased fans with the promise of an original storyline for himself and Jackman.
Details are not known, but the new film is expected to leverage the same blend of humor and action that made their previous collaboration so popular.
For fans, the excitement lies not only in seeing Reynolds and Jackman return to the screen together but also in the novelty of seeing them outside the Marvel Universe.
Their previous success with Deadpool & Wolverine has set high expectations for this upcoming project, making it one of the most anticipated films in development.
While he’s primarily known for his comedic and action-packed roles, Reynolds has a growing portfolio as a writer.
He co-wrote Deadpool 2 and Deadpool 3 with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and recently launched the Fubo TV series Bedtime Stories with Ryan .
Reynolds is also working on a comedy film called Boy Band , where he’ll both star and co-write with Me, Earl and the Dying Girl writer Jesse Andrews.
Though Reynolds didn’t specify whether this non-Marvel project is Boy Band or another new venture, fans are buzzing about what the movie could entail.
Described as a “boy band reunion movie,” Boy Band has Reynolds’ Maximum Effort production company onboard, with Levy potentially directing.
Another possibility is Levy’s recent production project, Never Lie .
Based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller novel, Never Lie would be quite a different genre for Reynolds.
The story follows a newlywed couple who become trapped in a remote mansion with ties to a missing psychiatrist.
As they uncover eerie recordings, secrets begin to surface, setting the stage for a tense thriller.
Whether Never Lie will be a starring vehicle for Reynolds and Jackman remains to be seen, but fans wouldn’t be surprised to see Reynolds put his own spin on a project like this.
Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy have quite a history together.
The trio recently collaborated on Deadpool & Wolverine , which shattered box office expectations, pulling in $636.7 million domestically and $1.337 billion worldwide .
Reynolds and Levy have also enjoyed previous success with Free Guy (2021) and The Adam Project (2022).
For Jackman, the partnership with Levy goes back even further.
The two worked together on Real Steel in 2011, making their collaborations a staple in action and comedy.
The actors’ chemistry and Levy’s knack for balancing humor and heart in high-energy settings have proven a winning formula, making this new project highly anticipated.
Both Reynolds and Levy have significant ties to major studios.
Reynolds’ Maximum Effort has a first-look deal at Paramount, while Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment is set up at Netflix .
Given these connections, either studio could be a potential home for this new project.
With Netflix’s recent push to secure major talents and Paramount’s history with Reynolds, it’ll be interesting to see where this movie ultimately lands.
While details on the project are still under cover the mere hint of Reynolds and Jackman’s return has already stirred up excitement.
Their comedic camaraderie, on and off the screen, has always been a fan favorite , and with Levy at the helm, it’s bound to be a crowd-pleaser.
For now, Reynolds is staying tight-lipped on what’s next, but it’s evident that he’s ready to bring his signature humor and creative spark to his latest endeavor with Jackman.
Whether it’s a musical comedy, a thriller, or something entirely unexpected, this reunion is set to be a major event in film—Marvel or not.
