The Last Dance premiered globally in late October 2024, worldwide. This highly anticipated third installment of the franchise debuted in over 67 markets hinting at the worldwide appeal the film held.
The film was well-received in China. Besides that, viewers in North America, Asia, and Europe loved the plot and the top-class theme.
Venom: The Last Dance entered the cinemas with banging performance charts. Delivering an impressive opening weekend, The Last Dance earned $94.5 million in North America alone.
Talking about the film’s global reach, The Last Dance has achieved remarkable success within its first two weeks of release. This incredible success truly highlights just how popular the movie has become.
Despite doing well at the box office, The Last Dance wasn’t spared by the critics’ reviews, both good and bad. The film garnered enthusiastic praise as well as measured critique.
Viewers loved the film’s striking visuals and high-octane action sequences. However, for others, the plot was simply too complex to keep up with.
All the Venom fans ate up the film, as the Genz would say. This part of the film series had emotional depth and a different portrayal of storytelling which the fans were quick to notice and admire.
Venom’s utmost sacrifice in the movie was applauded by fans on social media. This twist to the storyline reflected a more deeper and poignant theme.
Besides The Last Dance, the cinemas also saw the release of The Wild Robot and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The Wild Robot cumulated $300 million globally but it still fell short in comparison to The Last Dance’s success.
Similarly, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever released by Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company reported an opening gross of in millions as well. The movie came in the second place when compared to The Last Dance.
Since its release up to the third week, The Last Dance stayed atop the domestic box office chart. The film earned a foreign total of $279.4 million and a huge $394.2 million globally.
Talking about global contributors, cinemas in China reported impressive earnings, while the film also dominated the U.K. and Ireland box offices with a strong debut earning millions.
Even after receiving criticism, The Last Dance did exceptionally well at the box office. And the question that arises here is why?
For starters, the first two installments gathered a loyal fanbase, which, of course, ensured viewers for the newly released film. Similarly, the cutting-edge visual effects and thrilling action sequences were enough to attract the fans.
The marketing team for The Last Dance did some hard work and it seems to be paying off well. The film’s trailer was enough to garner excitement throughout the globe.
These previews teased a much darker tone in the new installment, which the fans couldn’t wait for. Global premier events and press tours also played a huge role.
The complex relationship between Eddie Brock and Venom was portrayed in such a perfect manner. The film’s central theme is about friendship and loyalty, showcased via the bond between Eddie and the symbiote.
Even though both characters had contentious relationships, Venom and Eddie remained loyal to each other throughout the entire film. Venom’s ultimate sacrifice for the greater good, when he chose to save the earth rather than protect himself, was another deal breaker.
Without a doubt, The Last Dance has a standout cast, including the OG, Tom Hardy, as the iconic Eddie Brock/Venom. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Rex Strickland, an important antagonist in the film.
Other significant cast members include Andy Serkis (Knull), Juno Temple ( Dr. Teddy Payne), and Peggy Lu (Mrs. Chen). All these characters had a great hand in making this film a blockbuster.
The character of Venom was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man (1988) and quickly became a popular character in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Due to Venom’s complex nature and anti-hero status, he ultimately became a fan favorite.
The release of Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) was a significant leap for the character and a much-needed one. Since the movie came out in 2018, Venom’s character has seen nothing but success.
Venom: The Last Dance was different from the first two series in the sense that it had more emotional aspects in it. The first two installments were heavily focused on action and humor.
However, the recent movie was more emotionally driven. The ultimate plot twist mentioned above adds a layer of gravity to the story, making it feel more grounded.
Venom 3 has marked the end of Eddie’s character and it was the most bitter-sweet thing ever. When talking to Tom Hardy about the ending, the actor said, “There’s nothing left out.”
According to Tom, he had been given enough time to grow within the first two installments, and The Last Dance gave him the perfect opportunity to say goodbye to the character. Did you know Spider-Man also made a surprise appearance in the movie?
