Gill was born in 1957 in Oklahoma. Music is hereditary in his family, his father was a good banjo player, and his mother was a good harmony player.
He opened his eyes to musical instruments, and because of all this, he learned to play fiddle, banjo, guitar, and bass at an early age.
He performed in the concert while he was in high school and presented Bluegrass to start a Pure Prairie league. He initially propounded himself as a traditional country music artist in the company.
After finishing his high school studies, he moved to Louisville to begin his music career.
In Louisville, he adjoins Bluegrass Alliance , a band he spent a year with. Gill played Ricky Skaggs’s outfit and other bluegrass outfits, specifically Boone Creek.
Later, Gill became a lead singer in 1979 with the Pure Prairie league again.

The same year, Gill was assigned a contract and recorded three albums with RCA. Also, he worked on the album Here Today , which originally belonged to David Grisman. His earliest hard work made him succeed, and he became a top country music artist.
The way of success continued: Gill released his holiday album Let There be Peace on the Earth in 1993. He focused on pop music instead of traditional country music, and later, he released When Loves Find You, which was a pop item and ranked in the top 5. Almost millions of copies were sold out.
The album comprises the top 5 super-hits, including the title song Whenever You Come Around , What the Cowgirls Do , and Which Bridge to Cross. According to his personal life situations and after his divorce from Janis Oliver, Gill released his new album in 1998, namely The Key. The album focused on hardcore country music and enhanced traditional music, reaching the top position on the Country Billboard chart.
The year 2000 was the revival of Gill’s sentimental theme as he married the pop singer Amy Grant.

The era of victory didn’t stop, and he joined The Eagles for touring purposes in 2017. He issued Okie and some more new albums in the past few years.
A combination of modern country music, pop , rock, and solo with a soaring tenor voice and his soft falsetto. These are the features that made him recognizable. His sweet smooth vocals and teary wordings present a song as a reality.
