Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat
Theoretical and practical training includes acquiring knowledge and skills for launching, recovering, maintenance and handling of the fast rescue boat in all conditions. Successful trainees must:
know: – design, construction, performance, maintenance, repair and outfit of fast rescue boat , navigation and safety equipment of fast rescue boats; safety precautions for launching and recovering of the fast rescue boat ; procedures for righting a capsized fast rescue boat , use of patterns for search and rescue;
and be able to: – handle and operate fast rescue boat in all conditions launch and recover fast rescue boat in adverse hydro-meteorological conditions and rough sea, start, operate the engine of the fast rescue boat and its auxiliaries, use all available fast rescue boat equipment, including communication and signaling between the fast rescue boat and a helicopter or a ship, cast off, move away from a ship and come alongside; maneuver with low and high speed, perform towage and transfer of rescued people aboard other rescue crafts.
Course requirements:
The course is mandatory for seafarers, who will perform the duties of a coxswain of fast rescue boat, as is specified in the Annex № 1 of Ordinance № 6, or when a person is nominated by the Shipowner or the Flag Administration.
The course includes mandatory minimum requirements for training, checking of acquired knowledge and skills and certification laid down in Chapter VI, Section A-VI / 2, table A-VI/2-2 Convention STCW’78, as amended.
Requirements to participants:
The trainees should meet the following requirements: to have at least primary education; to be medically fit (confirmed with a valid medical certificate); to be at least 18 years of age; to have completed approved by the BMA courses and to hold a basic safety training certificate, according to Reg. VI /1 and Table A-VI/1-1, A-VI/1-2, A-VI/1-3, A-VI/1-4 and “Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats, other than Fast Rescue Boats” in accordance with Regulation VI /2 , paragraph 1 of the STCW’78 Convention, as amended
