ADA Inspections and Consultation

All playgrounds must be compliant with 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design

Website information taken from the ADA website (www.ADA.gov).

The Department of Justice has adopted the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.  The Standards may be used now but compliance will be mandatory for all public use facilities on March 15, 2012. The California Division of the State Architect (DSA) has adopted these requirements for California school play areas.

These standards are not retroactive but modifications to existing facilities may trigger requirements for partial compliance. We can evaluate your sites and your proposed development plans and make recommendations for compliance with these new guidelines.

The information below is provided as a general guide to making your playground accessible.  It is not meant to be a comprehensive analysis of the ADA Standards with all of its complexities.  The purpose is to give you a working knowledge of the playground related requirements of the new ADA Standards. Click on the links below to view playground-related sections of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design (2010).
