黒人父親は少年が2歳の時に失そうし、2度目のインドネシア人父親は性格が大変良く
て少年を大変可愛がってくれたが妹が生まれた後41歳の時離婚している。そして彼は
51歳の時肝臓病でロサンゼルスの病院で亡くなっている。母親はオバマ少年をアメリ
カ人として育てようと思って少年を朝4時に起こしてインドネシアの学校に行く前3時
間英語を教えたとのことである。少年は5分もすると眠くなってしまったし、お腹も
痛くなったと書いているが教育熱心な母親だったことがうかがえる。
