厳しい寒さで沢の水さえも凍る頃となった。大気の冷えがまさに底となるこの時期、常に流れている川の水が凍ることはめったにないことである。池や沼の水面の氷は、溶けたり凍ったりを繰り返しながら厚みを増していく。

The ice on the water surface of ponds and swamps increases in thickness while melting and freezing repeatedly.
