Hard day of moving
Today my company moved our office to a different part of Edmonton. It was particularly difficult for me because I had to move all of our inventory as well as my own office. It took me about a week to pack everything. Now I have to unpack everything :p But the new office is very nice, much better than our old one. And I think it is in a better part of town, less crime. Before we were in a neighborhood with many thefts. It will be good to not have to think about that stuff now as much.Also there is a nice little diner beside the new office where we can eat. They have hamburgers and sandwiches and donairs. Today I had a donair, it was really good. I think I will look forward to eating there more often.This weekend was the Easter long weekend, and Nadu and I went to Lethbridge to visit our friend and my brother. For 2 nights I slept at my brother's house, and Nadu slept at her friend's and on the last night we both slept at her freind's. It is such a long, boring drive down there, 6 hours and barely and towns in between or any good scenery. But I have driven there many times, so I guess I'm used to it.One day we went with our friend to see a movie, Robots. It was not too bad, not all that funny I thought, maybe more for kids. But they had a short 5 minutes movie before Robots with the little squirril/chipmunk/some other creature for Ice Age that always tries to get a nut. That was much more funny.Also we saw Hot Chicks at our friend's house. Every critic on Earth said it was horrible, but it was really quite funny. I love almost any movie made by the Wayans brothers, so I knew I would love it. I definitely reccomend it!Of course we went out drinking for 2 of the nights we were there. We met with a bunch of our friends and I got really drunk the first night :) That was a lot of fun, not so much the morning after though.On the way back home we stopped by my parent's house in Calgary. I watched a US college basketball game with my dad, and we had a super Easter dinner with turkey and potatoes and cheesecake for dessert! That was awesome. I also gave my dad a bottle of Orion beer I brought back from Okinawa.

I hate Ebay snipers
I was bidding on a pretty nice hockey card on eBay yesterday, a Tommy Salo MVP Super Script numbered out of 25, and had the winning bid at $3.50. The auction was to end at about 7AM this morning, so I wasn't going to be awake so see if I wont right away. But it should have been ok, who else would be awake at 7AM Sunday morning to outbid me??Well, some assclown did. And he outbid me by 25cents! I was pretty pissed, but I'm used to it. It always happens...I have another bid on another nice card which ends tomorrow. Wish me luck, and nobody else better come near it!!!Been watching NCAA basketball all day for the last 4 days in a row. I think Nadu must be getting pretty sick of it, but she's being nice and letting me watch it anyway. I suppose next time she wants to watch a chick flick I should let her and not complain about it. It's the least I can do to repay her :)

Frankssportcards.com & St. Paddy's Day
I've been working on my other website quite a bit lately. It is my sports cards website, where I mostly have hockey cards, but also some basketball and baseball. Yesterday I added a bit of code that lets me put pictures for certain cards. I was quite proud of myself :) The entire page is written in php, a realtively easy web programming language, but it works really well for this site.If you want to take a look at it and tell me how great it is, here is the link:Frank's Sportcards.I had a really busy day at work again, so when I got home me and Nadu just ordered some pizza and grabbed some beer. I guess a relaxing night is just what we needed. I'm trying yet another new beer, the first British beer I have tried in years. It's called Smithwick's, it's from Ireland. Today I'm sort of celebrating St. Patrick's Day a day late.When I was in college I used to celebrate St. Patrick's Day a lot more than I do now. And my 'celebrate', I mean 'drink as much green colored beer as humanly possible'. It was great, but now since I'm working I can't go out when it falls on a weekday. Oh well, I'm only 1/4 Irish, so it isn't that much of a crime that I missed it yesterday.

March Madness! It's...Madness!!!
Today marks the beginning of the best tournament in all of sports. No, it does not end with the Super Bowl, NBA Championship, or even the Stanley Cup (yes, I'm still Canadian last time I checked). No, it is the NCAA Basketball tournament. I don't really care about any particular team one way or the other, so why is it so great? Because in the course of 2 days there will be 32 games. That's what I love about it, if I could I would take these 2 days off work and watch every game, all day. Unfortunately that may get me fired, so I have to settle for watching the night games, which is 5-8 games a night. Thats not too bad.Today at work we got the new tower up and running for the most part. What a hectic day it was...every hour or so a different tower would die since the new link was interfering with the old ones, or the guy climbing the tower would climb in front of a link, knocking it offline for a second. What I can't believe is when somebody's Internet goes off for 3 minutes, they call me right away to bitch about it. Can you seriously not live without Internet for 3 FRICKING MINUTES!?!?! Ahhhh, that feels better :) At least when I got home Nadu had some yummy gyoza made and I could watch basketball :D

Busy busy
What a busy day at work today. I don't think I've ever been that busy for a full day at his job (over a year and never been this busy? Is that a bad thing? :p )We are putting up a new tower on Wednesday, going to give beautiful Internet to a whole new area that never had high speed before. I kind of gives me a warm feeling in my heart :)This is probably the area with the most people we have ever put online. There are over 100 people on our waiting list to get Internet once we can give it to them in that area. Most of them have been waiting for over a year, so I guess its about damn time we did this.All day today I was configuring all the new cool equiptment we are gonig to put on the new tower. Wireless access points, antennas, backhauls - fun stuff. So here is a map of where we give Internet now (green circles) and the new towers in the future will be (red). The one on the left side is the one that kept me all busy today.You can see that the new ones cover way more area than the old ones. That is because they are on top of 800 foot towers instead of the 100 foot towers we currently have. 800 feet is a long freaking way up there! I'm sure glad I'm not the one who has to climb to the top of it and bolt gear on there ;)

Fixing computers
I fixed a computer for my friend's mother this week. The Windows boot sector was corrupt, so I had to reinstall Windows and put all her programs back on it. It only took about an hour, was quite simple. When I returned it to my friend he paid me with a 6-pack of my favorite German beer. Later that night I got a call from his brother, who was at their mother's house. Turns out I forgot to turn his firewall on, and within 3 minutes of plugging it into the Internet he had the damned Sasser worm. I should have known better than to trust Windows in any way. I sure wish there was another option that most people could use, since I know Microsoft won't fix their problems anytime in the near future. Anyway, I had to talk to him on the phone for about half an hour guiding him through the process of killing the worm. Then I got him to use Firefox, and totally drilled it into his head never to use Internet Explorer again. I feel like I've made a difference in the world :)I guess my friend's brother was impressed enough with my computer fixing skills, because he has asked me to build him a new computer. He offered to pay me about $100 to do it, but I don't really like to accept cash for stuff like this. Maybe I can get him to buy me that Antec case I've been dreaming about, then I can get started on my server :D:D

Engaged couples unite!
Yesterday Nadu and I went out with my co-worker and his fiancee. We went to Boston Pizza and ate a whole bunch of food and beer. I could only drink to glasses of beer because I had to drive after that, but my co-worker was already a bit drunk by the time we left. We then went over to their house and drank some more beers and watched some movies.We rented Anchorman from the video store. That movie might just be Will Ferrell's crappiest movie. Me and Nadu were the only ones still awake after it was over.After that movie we found another one on tv, and it was much better - The Transporter. I didn't expect that movie to be very good, but it was awesome! Made up for having to pay to watch Anchorman :pAt about 1:30 AM we went home. Of course we stopped by Tim Hortons and grabbed some cookies and a doughnut. Nadu got a Maple Dip doughnut...I think she's becoming more and more Canadian every day :DTonight we're watching Terminator 2. This movie rules pretty hard too. I could see it 100 times in a row and not get sick of it.

New VOIP phones
At work today we got our new demo VOIP phones. With these phones we don't need any phone lines, we can make calls over the internet. Me and my co-worker were having fun dialing each other's IP addresses...we're such geeks :p We are going to be replacing our whole phone system with these, the phones will connect to a server in the office. That means that once I get my server at home up and running, I can either get a VOIP phone of my own or use some internet software, route it to our phone server, and get free phone calls! And calls to Japan for Nadu would be very cheap, if not free (depends on how my company feels about it). This is gonna rule!

Guess it was too good to be true
Too good to be true - that describes the situation in Edmonton. The last couple of days have been great weather, plus 10 degrees C 3 days in a row. Then comes MONDAY. At about noon this white stuff starts falling from the sky. Snow. Dammit. Not a ton, but enough to annoy me :pIt was a very wet snow that fell today since the temperature was still around 0 degrees. You could make a snowball that would kill somebody, it's so wet and heavy. The forcast says it's gonna get down to -13 C by next week, so I guess its no early early early summer like we hoped. But the worst thing is that where my parents live 300km south in Calgary it was +15 degrees, and where my brother is going to school 600km south it was 18 degrees. This isn't fair!

Engagement
Yesterday I popped the big question to Nadu. And yes, she said yes. Kind of strange how everyone asks that. Would I really be telling everyone about it if she said no? :pI had the day planned out a bit. There is a spot at the legislative grounds that we go to quite often. We've been there probably 4 or 5 times since we've been living here (just over a year). That spot is in the picture below: So we went there to 'take some pictures', which we actually did. Then on an impulse I wanted to take a look inside the building. So we take 1 step inside and a guard meets us. He's like 'can I help you?'. And I just said on the fly 'we want to take a tour'. So he's all helpful and lets us know when the next tour is. I never knew they even had tours on a regular basis in there. So after a few more people show up the tour begins. It was about a half hour long, and was really cool. Lots of history (which I love) and some insight on what happens there. We saw the door to the Premier's office and even go to go inside where all the polititians get together and call each other names, ie. the democratic process.We were informed that any day that there is a meeting in there anyone from the public can go watch. This was all news to me. I think it would be really cool to see that one day.After the tour we went to that flame and sat down. It was the that I proposed. Isn't that all romantic and such?That night we went out for sushi (of course) and we told people about it. I think everyone we told was in mild shock. I guess I was the only one who wasn't since I was the only one who wasn't suprised about it.

DVD Collection
Today I added a new page, it shows our DVD collection. Check it out under my 'free pages'.Today Nadu cooked steaks on the bbq for supper. Those were so good, it's been a long long time since I've had a steak, what with being in Japan recently and eating a lot of Japanese food. Today was an Albertan supper - steak, potatoes, and stuffed mushrooms, along with a few beers.
