We stayed at Hotel Bayrischer Hof. The location is good, right across from Bus/Trams station. (We found the public a parking lot near the hotel.) We were greeted with welcome wine at check in.
Our room was spacious. We had the corner room which is much bigger than Jenny/Jason's Double room for the same price. We had only one complain: the noise from outside at night. The "ear plugs" was on the night stands. We should know that was an indicator for the noise complains from the previous guests.
Breakfast was included and we loved it!!! Most things are cheaper in Heidelberg than Luxembourg and Paris, and people are friendly. Also, most people there can speak English.
We took the Bergbahn (mountain railway) up to Heidelberg Castle (Schloss Heidelberg) which is the "Must see" place in Heidelberg. You’ll see that parts of the castles were built at different times in different styles. It is really impressive and you get many good opportunities to take pictures everywhere. After we saw the castle and walked around the gardens, we headed back to the old town. We crossed the old bridge and walked along the River Neckar and went back to the Old Town from the New bridge. (The Old bridge is pretty, and new bridge is nothing spacial.) The Old town was very charming and crowded with tourists. We found very good German restaurant nears the central market square. The restaurant "Sudpfanne" offers traditional local meals for reasonable price.
It seems like all restaurants in the Old town have same problem: shortage in labor. It might be that the workers took days off for Easter holidays. We had to wait a long time for the food to serve in all restaurants we went.
Also Fairy Tale Park was closed. Luckily, the University botanical garden (Botanischer Garten Heidelberg) was open. It is the one of the oldest in Germany, and one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe. Their greenhouses are huge and contain many impressive and mature specimens from all areas of the world. Heidelberg offers many peaceful spots to relax and walking around. I will love to spend a longer vacation in Heidelberg.
