祈ることを、やめる 　－ 『驚くべき愛：第一章』より抜粋



what if I said, "Stop praying"? What if I told you to stop talking at God for a while, but instead to take a long, hard look at Him before you speak another word? Solomon warned us not to rush into God's presence with words. That's what fools do. And often, that's what we do.

「祈ることを、やめなさい」　もし私がそう言ったらどうでしょうか。もしも、しばらくの間、神様に話しかけるのを止めて、その代わりに一言もしゃべらずに神様をゆっくりとじっくりと見つめなさい、とあなたに言うならどうでしょうか。ソロモンは私たちに、慌（あわただ）しく しゃべりながら、神のご臨在に駆け込んではならない、と忠告しています。そのような態度は愚か者のすることです。そして、それは私たちがいつも、してしまっていることなのです。


We are a clture that relies on technology over community, a society in which spoken and written words are cheap, easy to come by, and excessive. Our culture says anything goes; fear of God is almost unheard of. We are slow to listen, quick to speak, and quick to become angry.

私たちの文化は、住んでいる地域の共同体で使う言語に依存しています。そこは、日常で使われている言葉そのものが、どこか安っぽくて、あまりにも安易で、なにか度の過ぎたような社会なのです。世の中は「何でもありだ」と言っています；　まるで、「神への畏れ」などという言葉を聞いたことがないような振る舞いです。ようするに私たちは、聞くに遅く、話すに早く、怒り易い生き物なのです。

The wise man comes to God without saying a word and stands in awe of Him. It may seem a hopeless endeavor, to gaze at the invisible God. But Romans 1:20 tells us that through creation, we see His "invisible qualities" and "divine nature."

賢い人は、ただ沈黙して畏れをもって神に歩み寄ります。もしかしたら、目に見えない神をじっと黙って見つめることは、あなたにとってまるで望みのない大冒険のように感じられるかもしれません。しかし、ローマ1:20は、神が創造された被造物を通して、「目に見えない神の性質」と「神の永遠の力と神性」を私たちは見ること知ることができる、と教えているのです。
