111 days left before the termination of Cassini
spacecraft. Last year, when I found that the final day of Cassini is September 15
in this year, I wondered why Cassini cannot stay on mission until October 15
, 20th launch anniversary. When I was a junior high school student, I had an interest in space and space exploration, but I backed down once. I was reading about Voyager programsparticularly eagerly, but I cannot recall at all how much I had seen about Cassini programs -Although now it's easy to find how was the stage of Cassini program back then by seeing Cassini timeline. One of the things I didn't know back then was: At first, an option was considered to send Voyager 1
to Pluto, but eliminated so that it could make a near approach of Titan.
However, thanks to Saturn's gravity assist, it could accelerate enough to reach the interstellar space while it's still on mission. Keep going, deserving the name!
When I found that New Horizons
spacecraft was heading for Pluto in Spring 2015, I came back to read about space exploration again -Strictly speaking, when I was searching about New Horizons programs and found website of Voyager program. I read how twin Voyager spacecraft visited Saturn and provided various discoveries and misteries to solve, and Cassini and Huygens
followed and took over. However, although I'm getting accustomed to reading those website, it's too difficult when it comes to technical engeneering and phisics topics -even in our language. Anyway, it's luckey I came back while Cassini spacecraft is still on extended mission
. I'd like to take this occasion to place a wish of good luck for Cassini spacecraft and operation team until the final day.
Some readers might wonder why I placed this on "111 days" before the termination day instead of 100 days or three months.
