手相で自分ブランドを発見！

第34回は海外の手相本を訳す！　です。

手相シロウトの私が、勉強するときに最も重要視
したのが、手相を体系的に覚えるということでした。
闇雲に、何々の印があるから運が悪いとか、いいとか
いう手相の見方は確かに面白いのですが覚えにくいの
が難点です。

日本の手相の本は、そういう感じで書かれている本が
多いので、覚えにくいのです。ところが、西洋手相術の本は体系的に書かれているので、非常に覚えやすい
のです。

その西洋手相術家でも大家と呼ばれているのが、
ルイス・ハーマン伯爵（キロ）です。彼はギリシア
語で「手」を意味する「Ｋｈｅｉｒ］にちなんで
キロと名乗り、政治家や王族などの有名人の相談役
となっています。

彼の手相の本「cheiro　Language of the Hand」を
訳します。実は大和田斎眼という手相家が、邦訳した
ものがあるのですが、なかなか古本屋でも手に入らない
ので、自分で訳すことにしました。今日から折に触れて、
１ページずつ翻訳していくことにします。
　ただし、直訳をしていくと、ただでさえ抽象的な手相
がさらに抽象的になり、手相を覚える上で、あまり意味
がないと思いますので、独断と偏見で、訳すことにしま
す。原文も併記するので、英語が得意な方はいろいろ
教えてください。

upon our lives. 「Know thyself」 the motto of
the ancients, is the simplest but the grandest
sermon that can ring within our ears.
 BY the knowledge of nature do we honor nature;
 for by the knowledge of self　may we master self,
and by the improvement of self may we also improve
mankaind　to the advancement of the race, to the
honour of the world, and to the glory of　the race,
to the honour of the world, and to the glory of
those who, in the marchof time,will fill life
broken ranks, and some day take our place.
 In endeavouring to trace the origin of palmistry,
 we are carried back to the confines of a prehistoric
 age. History tells us that the remotest period of
the aryan civilisation had a literature of its own.

最高の真理が最も小さいものにある。
私たちが最も軽蔑することが最もすばらしい利益である。偉大な光は、暗闇を突き破る。
そして手の線からは、最も偉大な暗示が生まれる。

キロ

　人間性の研究のすべての部門では、手相は最も強力な真理
を持っている。手相は人の欠点を減らすことができる。手相
はまた私たちの隠された才能や、エネルギーを発見できるカ
ギとなりうるものなのだ。「汝、己を知れ」という古代人の
言葉がよく知られている。最も簡単ではあるが、これは最も
偉大な説教である。自己に関する知識、手相を習得すれば、
世界の名誉と、人生における栄光とを手に入れることができ
るのである。さて、手相術の起源を辿ると、有史以前の時代
にさかのぼることができます。手相術の歴史は、アーリア文
明の最も栄えた時代に手相学の学問があったといわれています。
