Tethyan Copper Company Limited (ASX: TYC) today announced further strong results from its recentlycompleted drilling programme at the
Project in Pakistan. The results highlight another massive intersection in the H15 Complex, 297metres at 0.74% copper and 0.44 g/t gold, and confirm grade continuity inside the intermediateargillic and potassic alteration zones within the twinned H15/H14 porphyry complexes.
The latest results come from 13 new holes and two deepened diamond tails on earlier holes and are the last from the drilling completed at the Western Porphyries during 2005. A new resource estimate incorporating the results of the 2005 drilling is now in preparation.
This can be seen in the barren or low-grade upper intersections which
of the holes ? which correspond to the inner portions of the porphyries. A typical example is hole RD-008 drilled into the H14 complex from the west. The top 114 metres of the hole averages 0.13% copper in the outer halo, and the bottom 189 metres averages 0.71% copper as it enters the high-grade potassic core.
The best assay results from the final batch are from RD-011, which intersected 297 metres (228-525 metres down-hole) at 0.74% copper and 0.44g/t gold, ending in a run of 51 metres at0.97% copper and 0.79g/t gold. This hole is 200 metres east-south-east of any previous drillingand extends the high-grade core of the H15 Complex by 200 metres to the south from the previously reported high-grade intersection in RD-001 (111 metres at 0.95% copper and 0.56g/t gold).
Both the H14 and H15 porphyry complexes are now indicated as having dimensions of approximately 800 metres by 800 metres based on the extent of their alteration zones. They form a twinned system approximately 1 kilometre apart with an hourglass shape, narrowing to 200 metres wide where the intermediate argillic alteration zones overlap in the area between them. Mineralisation is shown to be continuous down to 450 metres depth, the current limit of drilling, in both complexes.
Tethyan completed the latest Western Porphyries drilling programme, comprising 10,750 metres, in October this year. The current Inferred Resource estimate stands at 730 million tonnes @ 0.64% copper and 0.39g/t gold. This estimate is based on 32 holes totaling 8,624 metres of drilling.
