Japanese Food: A Gift from Nature
Hello, everyone. Nice to meet you today.
My name is Ken Suetsugu. Call me Ken.
Ken means “ intelligent . ” So, please enjoy my intelligent speech today.
Do you love Japanese Tea? I mean, Green Tea.
As you know well,
many Japanese people enjoy drinking Green Tea.
Some towns and cities in Japan are famous for their local green teas.
Green Tea is healthy, because Green Tea contains Catechin,
a healthy ingredient.
Catechin works to reduce the amount of bad cholesterol.
That's why Green Tea is
proven to be
so healthy
scientifically.
So,
Japanese Green Tea
is also becoming popular in other countries, just like England or France.
Next, Tofu and Miso Soup.
Almost all Japanese people enjoy eating Tofu and Miso Soup.
Tofu and Miso in Miso Soup are made from soy-beans.
As you may know well, soy-beans are famous as a healthy ingredient.
Because they contain lots of good-protein, dietary fibers and no cholesterol.
So Tofu and Miso Soup are becoming popular as healthy food in other countries.
Last, Sushi
:
Almost all Japanese people enjoy eating sushi.
Many towns and cities in Japan are famous for their unique and local sushi varieties.
Sushi is
very
healthy, because it is based on
vinegared
rice and fish.
As a result, sushi has become one of the most popular Japanese foods around the world.
So far, I've introduced typical healthy Japanese foods and drink.
I believe that food culture is one of the most important parts of a country's culture.
These traditional Japanese foods are made from healthy ingredients that come from Japan's rich natural environment.
However, while we enjoy delicious food and drink every day almost unconsciously ,
I thin k we sometimes forget to take good and proper care of the very nature that provides delicious Japanese foods and drinks.
For example, unfortunately, some people , no, many people these days throw garbage on nearby greenery, roads, in parks, or on beaches.
Plastic waste and other litter eventually reach the ocean.
This is becoming a serious environmental problem.
One of the animals that suffers greatly from this problem is the sea turtle.
These days, t he number of sea turtles is decreasing in Japan and in the world .
Do you know why?
Many people take sea turtles and their eggs every year illegally.
Some people eat the eggs.
Other people buy and sell sea turtles as food.
Sometimes, balloons and plastic bags kill sea turtles.
The balloons and bags fall into the sea,
and then their colors come off.
Floating plastic bags and balloon
s
-
they are colorless
-
really look like jelly fish
Sea turtles mistake them for jelly fish.
Sea turtles love jelly fish.
So they eat the balloons and plastic bags
accidentally
.
Every year, hundreds of sea turtles die from those balloons and plastic bags.
Let's
keep our beaches and natural surroundings clean and
protect the world sea turtles
together.
For example, please hold on to your balloons firmly and
Never throw away your plastic bags.
This sad fact and other kinds of problems related to harming and polluting our natural environment including nearby greener y , roads, parks and so on should be thoroughly taught at schools and other educational organizations and also at home in every community as the important moral education.
If I were the principal of a school or the president of a university,
I would establish a compulsory course to help students appreciate Japanese food
and
deepen our
respect
for
our surrounding nature that is the base of Japanese food.
The professor would try to show his pupils how they could add real joy to
their daily lives by deepening their
true
appreciation to our surrounding nature and
also
by keeping our nature clean all the time.
The instructor
would try to awake their dormant and sluggish faculty for protecting
our surrounding nature
, which is the very base for delicious Japanese foods.
Japanese food is one of Japan's greatest treasures.
But without clean nature, we cannot enjoy it in the future.
Let's protect our nature together, starting now , from this very moment on .
Thank you very much. //
If I were the president of a university~以下は、
来年は、この Three Days to Seeの大エッセイを更に応用して、
