Our state and local governments have realized we can’t wait for sweeping policy to come from the federal government―so we are taking action on our local level to do what we can.
One note about our government structure―I will mostly be referring to the city in this presentation―but it is really a cooperative effort between Metro, our regional government that manages land use, transportation, and regional parks & greenspaces, local counties and local cities.
In 2001, the City of Portland and Multnomah County joined efforts to create a Global Warming Action Plan aimed at reducing carbon emissions to 10% below 1990 levels by 2010.
