When I went to get our mail from the mailbox today, I received a letter from my 87 years old grandma among with other letters. My grandpa from my dad's family was already dead when I was born, my grandma from my dad's family passed away 2 years ago. My grandpa from my mom's family passed away 6 years ago, too. hiroro's grandparents from both his father and mother's families passed away already. So my grandma from my mom's family is the only existing grandma for both of us. As I wrote in my diaries before, my grandma is very energetic woman who visited us in Korea last year. That grandma wrote me a letter. In her letter, she wrote to me about how she is doing these days, about my hometown, about our ex-turtle,Aster who was adopted by my grandma and how glad she is about us being back in Japan. It was a heart warming letter and it made me happy! These days, I often talk to my grandma on the phone because it's faster and easier. Even I'm happy when I receive a letter so I thought to myself, it must make grandma very happy to receive a letter from me. Since I'm not busy at all today, I wrote back to her right away. When I was living in Korea, I wrote to her but it was a one way communication, since grandma didn't know how to send international mail. But now that we both live in Japan, it will be a both way communication for sure. I'm happy about that!
Both my grandparents on my father's side are alive and they still quite 'genki' ! My grandfather writes to me and I speak to them on the phone sometimes. They are 88, I think!
のんちゃん has one grandmother still alive, on her mother's side. She lives alone on Okinoshima and still grows vegetables in her garden and does many other things. She is also 87! It's difficult talking to her on the telephone, though, because her hearing isn't so good these days!

It's great to hear you and Nonchan's grandparents are still Genki!! It's true that my grandma, too is slowly having difficulty with her hearing. So I'm thinking it's better for me to write to her more often. Letters, you can keep and read over and over. I hope both your and Nonchan's grandparents stay well!! (2005.03.29 11:14:36)
