The other day, when I was back in my hometown, I encounterd an auntie who lives in our neighborhood. She was carrying a bag and she was getting ready to go somewhere. We said "Hi!" to eachother. I asked her, "Are you going somewhere?" She replied, "Oh, I'm going to Nyuyoku(means "bathing at a hot springs" in Japanese) "Oh, You're going to NY. Wow! Have a good trip!" But afterwards, I found out that I heard it wrong. I don't know why but I thought what I heard was NY instead of "Nyuyoku". This auntie always goes to a trip abroad with her husband every 2,3 months. So I thought automatically that she was going to travel abroad again. When I told this to auntie, she said, "Next time I go to "nyuyoku", I 'll say I'm going to "Nanchatte Nyuyoku(means "unreal NY" in Japanese) and we had a good laugh. I sometimes hear words wrongly. Do you have a experience as such, too??
