8日、デトロイトモーターショーでレクサス『LS460』 がワールドプレミアされた。380馬力を発揮する4.6リットルV8エンジンに、世界初の電子制御8速ATを搭載。0－60マイル/h（90km/h）で5.5秒を切る高いパフォーマンスを実現した。
新型LS460のもう一つの特徴は、全長5030mmのノーマルボディの他に、ホイールベースを120mm伸ばしたロングホイールベースモデル「LS460L」が用意されたこと。2種類のホイールベースを用意するのはレクサス初となる。
延ばされたホイールベースの恩恵はすべてリアシートの居住性に充てられた。リアシートはノーマルが3名掛けとなるのに対して、Lは左右のシートの間にセンターコンソールをはさんでシングルシート2つを配置。あえて4人乗りのレイアウトが採用された。
さながらプライベートジェットのようなゆったりと豪奢な室内は、ベンチレーション機能・ヒーター付本革シート、後席パワーリクライニング＆オットマン付パワーレッグレスト、ワークスペース用のリアシートテーブル、9インチリアディスプレイ、19スピーカー付マークレビンソン・オーディオ等々、贅を尽くした装備が満載。ハイテク機能として、プリウスに採用されているものとはまったく異なるパーキングアシストも用意される。
レクサスLS460は、今年の秋、日本を含む世界各地の市場での市販開始が予定されているが、日本国内向けのロングホイールベースボディは、4月のニューヨークモーターショーで発表されるハイブリッド駆動のみとなる。
