【メルセデスベンツ Eクラス改良発表】レクサスはライバルに挙げず

ダイムラークライスラー日本は、ディーゼルエンジンを搭載したを追加して28日から発売すると発表しました。
日本では東京都がディーゼルエンジンNO運動を展開したこともあって撤退していましたが、地球温暖化防止に、二酸化炭素排出量の少ないディーゼルエンジンが再び注目されており、今回ダイムラークライスラー日本が先陣を切って市場投入しました。
以下レスポンスの記事によれば、メルセデスベンツ関係者は、レクサスについてはライバルとして名を挙げることはなかった。
レクサスGSとは価格帯が違うということもあり、直接の競合車としては見ていないようです。
「レクサスなど眼中にない。」という感じですね。
早く直接的なライバル車として名が挙がるようになりたいものですが、まだまだ時間がかかりそうです。

メルセデスベンツ関係者は、直接的なライバル車としてBMWの『5シリーズ』などを挙げる程度で、レクサスについてはライバルと挙げることはなかった。
レクサスGSとは価格帯が違うということもあり、直接の競合車としては見ていないようにも思える。
また、ディーゼルエンジンを搭載した「E320 CDI」も、同じような車格で“低燃費”や“環境性能”を売りにしているという点ではレクサス「GS450h」が競合する。が、この点についても否定する。説明員によれば「雑誌などでそのような比較がされたことは知っているが、意識して商品企画をしてはいない」という。
Eクラスといえば自他ともに認めるこのセグメントの“ベンチマーク”となるクルマ。無理にライバルを意識させないことこそが、ベンチマークたるクルマの販売戦略ではないかとも思わせる。
