眼鏡新調。
　過日、暗闇でレンガ壁に顔面激突し、左眉庇が腫れ上がり10日以上も腫れが引かなかった。幸い眼鏡のレンズは割れなかったので大怪我には至らずにすんだ。左側のレンズに三、四箇所の引っ掻いたような傷が入った。その傷は中央部からはずれていた。私は忙しくもあったので、その傷の入った眼鏡をしばらくの間使用することにした。
　しかし、顔に眼鏡のフィット感がない。そして数日前、うつむいた拍子に眼鏡が落下した。じつは左側のレンズに傷が入っただけでなく、右側のノーズパッドからフレーム上部に亀裂が入っていたのだ。私はそれに気がつかずに使用していたのだが、ついに亀裂が広がりレンズがはずれる寸前だったのである。
　私はすぐに強力接着剤を塗布し、さらに金属テープで固定した。眼鏡無しでは仕事のみならず日常生活に支障をきたす。
　ともかく眼鏡に応急処置をして、今日、ようやく眼鏡店に行ったのである。
　画家として目が命の綱のようなものだ。60年間いくつもの眼鏡を使用してきて、しかし画家となってからは、ついぞ満足感がある眼鏡に出会わないのである。今日は、眼鏡店に前もって検眼の予約をし、たっぷり２時間余をかけて検眼してもらった。私は試用レンズの見え方を細かく細かく指摘した。検眼用機器がかつて眼科医院が使用しているのを私が見たことがないものだった。たぶんそのような機器は日進月歩で開発されているのだろう。
　私はいままで他の眼科医に指摘されたことがないことを今日の技師に指摘された。左右の瞳孔の高さにわずかな差があるというのだ。老化のためかもしれないと、技師は言った。つまり眼球を引っ張っている筋力が弱くなって来ていると。なるほどね、と私は今更ながら73歳という年齢を自覚した。
　要するに私に完璧に適合する眼鏡を作ることは無理ということなのだ。私はそれを十分承知している。そのうえで、画業をつづけるにできるだけ都合の良い眼鏡を作ってもらうしかない。できあがるまでしばらく時間がかかるが、楽しみに待っている。価格は8万5千円である。

On the other day, I crashed my face against the bric
wall in the dark, and the left eyelid was swollen. The
swelling did not heal for more than 10 days. Lukily
the lenses of the glasses did'nt break, so I did'nt get
seriously injured. There were three or four scratching
marks on the left lens. The scratches were off the cen-
ter. I decided to use the scratched glasses for a while.
Because I was busy.
However, there was not fit of the glasses on the face.
Then, a few days ago, the glasses fell at the moment of
face downward. Actually not only the lens on the left

frame from the nose pad on the right side. I used it
without realizing it, but at last it was about the time
when the crack spread and the lens came off.
I immediately applied a strong adhesive and fixed it
with metal tape. Without glasses, it only interfere with

Anyway, I gave first aid to glasses and today I final-
ly went to the glasses shop.
As a painter, my eyes are like a line of life. I have been
using many glasses for 60 years, but after becoming a
painter, I have never met glasses with a sense of satis-
faction. Today, I made a reservation for the optometry
at the eyeglass shop in advance, and I had my optom-
etry taken for over 2 hours. I pointed out how to look
at the trial lens in detail. I had never seen optometrists
in use at their ophtalmologist's office. Perhaps such de-
vices are being developed on a daily basis.
I was pointed out by today's engineers that I have not
been pointed out by other optometrists. There is a
slight difference in the height of the left and right pu-
pils. The engineer said that it may be due to aging. In
other words, if the mustcle that pulls the eyeball is
getting weak.
I see, I noticed again that I was 73 years old.
Inshort, it impossible to make glasses that fit me per-
fectly. I know that enough. The I have to make them as
convenient glasses as possible to continue my painting
works. It will take some time to finish, but I am looking
forward to it. The price is 85.000 yen.
