Down by the Sally Gardens 柳青き苑生で
My love and I did meet， いとしのひとと出会った
She passed the Sally Gardens， 雪のように白く小さな足で
With little snow white feet. 彼女は苑生を通り過ぎた
She bid me "take love easy あのひとは言った
as the leaves grow on the tree"， “恋はたわむれ 梢を飾る木の葉のよう”
But I， being young and foolish， だが私は若くおろかで
With her did not agree. 彼女にうなずこうとしなかった
In a field down by the river 川べりの野に
My love and I did stand， いとしのひととたたずんだ
And on my leaning shoulder， 寄り添う私の肩に
She laid her snow-white hand. 彼女は雪ひらのように白い手を置いた
She bid me "take life easy あのひとは言った
as the grass grows on the weirs" “生はたわむれ 堰に生う青草のよう”
But I was young and foolish だが私は若くおろかだった
And now am full of tears. いまはただ 涙がこぼれる
