何年か前に ある 英語で歎異抄を学ぶ というクラスに出席していた時
当時は 英語の説明だった 為 自分勝手な解釈をしており 多少 正しい訳とは ずれていましたが 特別の愛着を持っておりました。
今日 ふっと 思い出して ネットで調べたところ この詩は マーガレット パワーズ という
カナダ人の女性の作で とても有名であることが 分かりました。
少し長いですが 今日は その詩をここに引用してみます。訳は もともとの訳を参考に自分なりに訳して見ました。
"Foot Prints"
A few years ago when I attended a English class which we studied about Tannisho in English, our English teacher who used be a christian told us aobut this beutiful poem.
At that time I interpretted a bit different from original. But I have liked this poem very much.
I'd like to quote it here today.
"Foot Prints" written by Margaret Powers
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scenes he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
one belonged to his, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scnene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of
footprints.
in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it,
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'dwalk with me all the way.
But I noticed that duting the most troublsome times in my life
there was onlhy one set of footprints.
The Lord replied,"my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial nad suffering, when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then I carried you."

ある夜 男は夢を見た。
夢の中で 彼は 主とともに 渚を歩いていた。
その時 空に 彼の 人生の様々な 場面が 突然 映し出された。
それぞれの場面で いつも ２つの 足跡が残されていた。
１つは 彼自身のもの もう1つは 主イエスキリストのものであった。
そして 人生の 最後の場面が映し出された時 彼は 砂の上の足跡を
振り返って見た。
すると 足跡は 何度も １つしかない所が あることに気がついた。
この事は 彼を大変困惑させ、彼は 主に尋ねた。
「主よ あなたは 私が あなたに付いて行く事を決断した時 いつでも
私と一緒に歩いて行ってくれると言われたのに 私が人生で 最も 苦しんでいた時に
足跡は１つしかありません。
私が 最もあなたを必要としていた時にあなたは 私のそばにいて下さらなかった。
これは どういうことでしょうか？」
すると 主は答えた。
「私の 大切な大切な子供よ
私は あなたを愛している あなたを一度も見捨てたことはない。
あなたが 試練や苦難にあえいでいた時 足跡は １つだけになっている。
それは 私が あなたを背負っていたからだ。」
