Enjoy myself

Today, I went to Hongo campus. Honorary Degree Conferment Ceremony and Commemorative Lecture was taken place there. To my surprise, the person who was conferred the Degree of Honorary Doctor upon was Kofi A. Annan, the present Secretary-General of the United Nations !!!

As I mentioned before, I am a member of the Model United Nations. For its members, this ceremony was very attractive. No, it had been attractive. The reason why I said " had been" is that the address by H.E. Mr.Kofi A. Annan was so general that I was interested in that less than I had expected. However, its questions and answers are interesting. (Of course, they were also general things. That is the way it goes...?) I would like to introduce one of them.

The theme is the relationship between China and Japan, and Korea and Japan . That is to say, the nothern east Asian situation .

H. E. Mr. Kofi A. Annan said

Asian countries have been developing their economy and politics, and they are gaing power in the world. (For example, "Asian tiger") On the other hand, the level of society, law, human rights and democracy is defferent. So,  Asian countries need to support one another . However, relationship between China and Japan, and Korea and Japan is tense. According to the talk between H. E. Mr. Kofi A. Annan, China and Korea, Chinese and Korea think that Japan is their important pertner on the field of trade, cultural exchanges and grass-roots exchanges. But, there is a conflict on their history . In order to recouncil, we need to think not only the present and future but also the past and show such gestures . Then, we can reassure ourselves. If Asia can unite and have dynamism, Asia will have a great impact on the world. What a big potential Asia has!!! Several years ago, no one can imagine the world where European countries have a common market, they unite so strongly, and few people think wars will not break out in Europe. Asian countries can also do that thing. Honest negotiations! Mutual understanding!

His words were so common, but they are supported by his experience . So, I feel that there is a kind of implications.
