新しいもの好きなんで、ちょっと興味はあります。

Videoconferencing vs.Traveling(4)

As the cost of the newest videoconferencing equipment comes down, the team says they expect to be using it more often to save time.

at this point in time [ ちょうど今、現時点では

shake hands
It's traditional to "shake hands" when you close a business deal in the U.S. anyway. It's a sign of your honesty and integrity. You can even say, "Let's shake on it" to mean "Let's close the deal."

cut corners [ (経費・時間などを)節約する
=to save time, money, or energy by doing things quickly and not as carefully as you should:

To "cut corners" is to find the quickest, easiest or cheapest way to do something. In this case, Tyson is using it in a rather neutral form. It's often used negatively when you really shouldn't have used the quickest, cheapest or easiest way.

timewise [ 時間に関して

adage [ ことわざ、格言
=a well-known phrase that says something wise about human experience [= proverb]:

the colock tickes [ 時計がカチカチいう

come onto the market [ 市場に出る、市販される
=available for people to buy

meantime [ (副詞)さて、話が変わるが、ところで
口語で使われる、副詞としてはmeanwhileを多用

out of this world [ この世のものとは思えないくらい、とびきり素晴らしい

The phrase "out of this world" describes things that are surprisingly new or wonderful or extraordinary.

three-dimensional imaging system [ 立体画像システム

hurdle [ 障害、困難
=a problem or difficulty that you must deal with before you can achieve something [= obstacle]:

overcome/clear/get over etc a hurdle(=deal successfully with a problem)

"Hurdle" as a verb can mean "rush forward," I guess in the same way that you rush forward to jump over hurdles." To hurdle" means to go rapidly, head forward uickly without paying attention to obstacles.
In this sentence, "hurdle" is a noun, however. There are similar words you can use with the same meaning. You could say that a cost is an "impediment" to growth. You could say it's a "barrier" to growth or even an "obstacle" to growth.

impediment [ 障害、妨害するもの
=a situation or event that makes it difficult or impossible for someone or something to succeed or make progress

Daily Quiz

adage

There's some other similar words. You could have said it's a "saying" or a "proverb." "Adage," "saying" and "proverb" are pretty much the same things. Another similar word is "saw." But "saw" is used when the phrase has been used so much, it's become trite.

saw [ ことわざ
=a short, familiar phrase or sentence that is considered to contain some truth about life

*saw 「のこぎり」のほかに「ことわざ」という意味がありました。say, sagaと同語源
