In Mt. Jodo (Toyama Prefecture, altitude of about 2831m) of the North Alps and the Tateyama mountain range, the little bird of the ptarmigan

北アルプス・立山連峰の浄土山（富山県、標高約２８３１メートル）で、国の特別天然記念物で「神の使い」と呼ばれる 雷鳥（ライチョウ） のヒナが卵からかえり、親子で散歩を始めている。１８日午後２時ごろ、山頂付近で記者の前に母鳥とヒナ３羽が姿をみせた。富山県ナチュラリストの岩永靖典さん（６４）は「ヒナはふ化して２～３日だろう。目撃例は極めて珍しい」と話している。
ヒナはまだ産毛で好奇心が強く、高山植物を食べながら、ハイマツの周りを右へ左へ行ったり来たり。キツネなどを警戒する母鳥が「クウクウー」とヒナを呼び寄せるなどした。ライチョウはキジの仲間で、日本には氷河期から生息。その後の温暖化で、標高２４００メートル以上の高山に取り残された。中部山岳地帯に約３０００羽がおり、立山には約２００羽余りが生息している。
