When I was working at my desk, there was an announcement in the building.
“Fire alarm! Please evacuate this building immediately! Repeat. Please evacuate this building immediately!”

Me and my colleague stopped moving and saw each others faces.
Somebody said “Do you know if it is a fire drill?”
Most of us didn’t believe it was a “real” emergency situation.

I went to the general affairs section at a trot.
It seemed Manager was calling the building security but he hung up the phone and said the line was busy.
So, he and some other staff including me started speaking aloud to make our staff leave, because no one was sure that it is a false alarm.

When our staff started leaving the office, there was a phone call.

I shouldn’t have answered the phone.

I was slightly in a panic, and the customer was asking some tricky questions, and it seemed it wouldn’t end easily.
One of our general managers came to me, because I was the last girl in the office then, and told me to hang up the phone.
I had no choice, so I said to the customer as below.
“Excuse me, sir, but there was a fire alarm and we ordered to evacuate this building immediately. I will call you back as soon as possible. Could I have you name and phone number?”
He lost for words and hung it up immediately.

I was half running for the exit, and then there was an announcement.
“Ladies and gentlemen. It was a false alarm. There was no fire in this building.”
I was lucky, wasn’t it?
