この前、車の話をしていた。
英語で車の種類いくつある？
と聞かれた...
So, I checked it out. There are probably more, but these are the types of cars listed on two major car rental agencies. (We also call these Rent A Car companies)
This is what was on DOLLAR RENT A CAR's homepage:
Economy - Kia Rio
Compact - Dodge Caliber
Intermediate - Chrysler Sebring
Intermediate Special - Chrysler PT Cruiser
Full Size - Dodge Charger
Premium - Chrysler Pacifica
Luxury - Chrysler 300 Touring
Intermediate Convertible - Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible
Standard Convertible - Chrysler Sebring
Minivan - Dodge Caravan
SUV Intermediate - Jeep Liberty
ATV Intermediate - Jeep Wrangler

Luxury - Cadillac DTS
Convertible - Convertible (sic)
Compact Recreational Vehicle - Hummer H3
Mini Van - Chevrolet Uplander
Intermediate SUV - Pontiac Vibe
Full Size SUV - Chevrolet Tahoe
Standard SUV - Chevrolet Trailblazer
Premium SUV - Chevrolet Suburban
Passenger Van - Chevrolet Express
沢山あり過ぎて大変、大変。
Did you notice something? These are not really types of cars, but classifications of a cars rank, independent to each renal car agency. What I mean is, each company needs a standard by which to charge the customers for the cars. So, they made up some names for types of cars. I doubt that GM or Ford call cars "premium" or "economy". I might be wrong, but look how Avis call their cheapest smallest car a subcompact, while Dollar Rent A Car calls it "economy".
Check Avis and Dollar's homepages and see the cars for yourself.
