美術館に展示されている名画に液体をかけるなどの暴挙で、温暖化防止への注意を引こうとする若い運動家の行動がヨーロッパで報道されている。イギリスではゴッホのひまわり、ドイツではミレーの作品、フランスではモナリザの絵にジュースなどを浴びせたと報道されている。幸い絵はガラスの枠の中にあるので実質的な被害はなかったという。
このような過激な行動には肯定と否定の反響があるようだ。賛成する活動家は30年間の温暖化防止運動にはほとんど効果がなかったので、こんな行動も正当化されるのだと擁護している。また美術館の名画はガラスで守られているが、我々の住む地球は破壊されて飢餓に苦しむ人々が増えている。さらに名画以上にかけがえのないきれいな地球の風景が破壊されていると言う。しかしアメリカでの調査によると、こうした行為で運動への支持が増えたという人は13％で、減ったという人が46％、効果がないという人が40％と圧倒的にマイナス効果である。恐らく多くの日本人も逆効果と思うのではないだろうか。
Young anti-global warming activists smeared famous paintings at the museums in European cities. They apparently tried to draw people's attention to their movement. Sunflower by Gogh in London, Millet's work in Germany, Mona Liza in Paris and others were attacked. Luckily those paintings were protected by glass pane.
Some defend these activists saying that since little has been done to protect the earth for the past 30 years, their actions could be justified. They further say "The paintings in the museums are not damaged, but the earth has been destroyed by climate change. The hunger and diseases caused by drought and flood are killing and displacing people in many parts of the earth". But the survey in the US showed that 46% of those surveyed said their support for climate movement declined after these actions and 40% of them said no effect, while only 13% said their support increased. Majority of Japanese may be against such vandalism.
