ユニセフは子供の幸福について報告書を出している。その中で子供の健康、幸福、教育の質、育休、自然な空間、公園などをファクターとして先進国の評価を行っている。ほぼこれに基づいて外国人家族が子供を育てるのに最も適している国を順位づけると日本が第一位だという記事があった。日本人には当たり前だが、安全で子供が一人で学校に歩いて行っていることがその理由の一つに挙げられている。ユニセフの評価でも子供の死亡や肥満等の身体的健康は日本が第一で、緑地や交通の安全等の環境は2番目である。また、家族にとっても安全で殺人事件は先進国中最低で、その人口当たりの率はアメリカの約40分の1，カナダの10分の1，オーストラリアの5分2である。教育システムもトップクラスというが、ユニセフの調査した76国のうち12位だというから私には期待はずれだった。
つぎはエストニアで、大気汚染や騒音、農薬の害が少ないなど環境面が優れているという。エストニアはIT化が最も進んだ国だと聞いたことがあるが、子供のIT教育も優れているようだ。三番目はスペインで、子供の精神的健全性が優れていることを上げている。これに関連して思春期の自殺が少なく、アメリカ、カナダ、オーストリア、ニュ－ジランドの3分の1以下だという。次はフィンランドである。ここも大気や緑地、学校といった子供のための環境が優れており、そのため子供の死亡率が世界で最も少ない国の一つで、アメリカの半分以下だという。また、自然が多いのが特徴で森が市街地に隣接している。このためか、不安感やうつに悩まされることが少ない。5番目がオランダだが、実はユニセフの子供幸福度のランキングでは総合一位だという。福祉制度の充実が挙げられている。しかし以上の5ケ国はいずれも、子供養育のための有給休暇などの福祉制度が優れていることが強調されている。
In the global society people may be interested which country is best to raise their children. An international journal ranked several wealthy countries for expat family on the basis of the factors such as children's health, happiness, the quality of education, family leave policies, green space and playground. The Unicef's report on child wellbeing is also based on these factors. Surprisingly Japan is placed top of the list. It says that Japan is one of the safest countries and children walk to their school by themselves. In Unicef's report Japan ranks number one for physical health which looks at mortality and obesity, and places second for the world around children that includes green space and traffic safety. The murder rate is the lowest in the world. Although Japan has one of the world's top educational system, it is ranked merely 12th place in 76 countries in Unicef's report.
Estonia comes second. The country has less environmental problems such as air pollution, noise and pesticide contamination than other wealthy countries. Estonia is known by its advanced IT technology. Digital skills are emphasized in the education system. Spain comes third, followed by Finland and Netherland. All these five countries provide generous parental leave, and children's mental health is better there than in other wealthy countries.
