女子サッカー選手の待遇が男子選手と比べて劣ることがジェンダー不平等として、アメリカやヨーロッパの国で改善が進められている。国際サッカー連盟はワールドカップへの出場チームとメンバーへの賞金を増額したという。しかしそれぞれの国内での待遇はプロである以上、ファンを増やし、試合に観客を引き付けて興業として成り立つようにしなければならないだろう。その意味では今回のワールドカップは試合場での観客もテレビ視聴者数も記録的な数字であったという。
実はこの他にも今回のワールドカップは記念すべきものだったと言われている。それはアフリカやカリブ海の国などの女子スポーツがあまり行われない国が代表を送り、ナイジェリア、ジャマイカ、モロッコが第2ステージの勝ち抜き戦にまで進んだことである。モロッコの選手がヒジャブを着けてプレイするのも画期的なことで多くの人を引き付けたようだ。サッカーを男女や人種平等のスポーツにする努力が報われてつつあることが示された。
Income gap between male and female succer players is becoming a global issue. FIFA announced the increase in prize money to the teams and players who joined the 2023 Women's World Cup. However as professional teams they need to win more fans and become financially independent. It was groundbreaking in this sense that this World Cup attracted record number of fans to the stadium and in front of TV.
This World Cup was remarkable in another way. Some African and Caribbian countries where woman's sports are not popular sent their teams, and among them Nigeria, Jamaica and Morocco advanced to knockout stage. A Morocan player with hijab particularly attracted many spectators. It showed that succer was a sport for everyone regardless gender or ethnicity.
