 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.

 4 When he had called together all the people ' s chief prists and teachers of the law he asked them where the Christ was to be born. 5 " In Bethelhem in Judea, " they replied, " for this is what the prophet has written:

6 " But you, Bethelem, in the land of Judea, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah: for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel. "

7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, " Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, reprot to me, so that I too may go and worship him. "

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it sopped over the place where the child was.

10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their trasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incesse and of myrrh.

12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.  Matthew 2:1~12

イエスが、ヘロデ王の時代に、ユダヤのベツレヘムでお生まれになったとき、見よ、東方の博士たちがエルサレムにやってきて、こう言った。

｢ユダヤ人の王としてお生まれになった方はどこにおいでになりますか。私たちは東のほうでその方の星を見たので、拝みにまいりました。｣

それを聞いて、ヘロデ王は恐れ惑った。エルサレム中の人も王と同様であった。

そこで、王は、民の祭司長たち、学者たちをみな集めて、キリストはどこで生まれるのかと問いただした。

彼らは王に言った。「ユダヤのベツレヘムです。預言者によってこう書かれているからです。

『ユダの地、ベツレヘムです。

あなたはユダを治める者たちの中で、決して一番小さくはない。

わたしの民イスラエルを治める支配者が、あなたから出るのだから。』

そこで、ヘロデはひそかに博士達を呼んで、彼らから星の出現の時間を突き止めた。

そして、こう言って彼らをベツレヘムに送った。「行って幼子のことを詳しく調べ、わかったら知らせてもらいたい。私も拝むから。」

彼らは王の言ったことを聞いて出かけた。すると、見よ、東方で見た星が彼らを先導し、ついに幼子のおられる所まで進んで行き、その上にとどまった。

その星を見て、彼らはこの上もなく喜んだ。

そしてその家にはいって、母マリヤとともにおられる幼子を見、ひれ伏して拝んだ。そして、宝の箱をあけて、黄金、乳香（にゅうこう）、没薬（もつやく）を贈り物としてささげた。　マタイ２：１～１２
