Jamie Foxx calls for rap superstars to stop fighting
Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is calling for today's rap superstars to stop fighting after incidents over the weekend (27-28 August 05) marred the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Miami, Florida.The Ray star, who performed at the awards with Kanye West, admits he was distressed by rap mogul Suge Knight's shooting on Saturday night (27 August 05) and then again at the VMAs when Fat Joe and 50 Cent's war of words went public.After Fat Joe poked fun at 50's entourage live on stage, the In Da Club rapper retaliated by ending his performance with a obscenities-laced rant at Joe.Foxx believes the feuding rappers ruined the evening. Now he fears another Tupac Shakur/notorious Big war, which left both rappers dead.He says, "I love all of those guys, man... (but) if Tupac and Biggie taught you anything, let it go, man. I've been in the game for 20 years. I've seen them come and go. You don't want anything tragic to happen."

Fat Joe, 50 Cent Beef, Other VMA Highlights
The 50 Cent, Fat Joe beef came to a head Sunday night after words were exchanged between the two rappers during MTV's Diddy-hosted Video Music Awards. While onstage announcing reggaeton artists Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, and Tego Calderon, Fat Joe took first aim at 50 Cent, stating, “I feel safe with all the police protection, courtesy of G-Unit.Several minutes later, 50 retaliated with bleeped-out obscenities for Fat Joe, during a set featuring Mobb Deepand Tony Yayo. "Fat Joe's a p**sy. F**k Joe. F**k Terror Squad." Sources stated that 50 actually jumped on stage off camera after Fat Joe made the quip about G-Unit. In related news, during pre-show festivities 50 appeared with Mase and officially announced the former Bad Boy rapper’s signing to G-Unit. Mid-show, Diddy conducted an orchestra while a montage of the late Notorious B.I.G.'s music videos played, including Juicy and Warning.Snoop Dogg spit a verse on the latter. The Doggfather also won Diddy's Fashion Challenge,which awarded $50,000 each to the charities of the best dressed male and female. Snoop was up against Usher and Kanye West. With the theme of the night being anything can happen,Snoop's pimp sidekick Bishop Magic Don Juan received a surprise makeover, courtesy of Diddy. In place of his usual vibrant gear, the Don sported a normal suit with no gaudy accessories. Diddy also brought the old school back when Luke and his raunchy dancers emerged during a dance medley, and MC Hammer performed his hit, U Can't Touch This.Other Hip-Hop performances included Ludacris, who won his first Moon Man for Best Rap Video with “Number One Spot,Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx, and Houston rappers Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Slim Thug, who performed during pre-show.

Suge Knight shot in leg
MIAMI BEACH - Rap mogul Marion (Suge) Knight was shot in the leg at a glittering party hosted by Grammy-winning hip hop artist Kanye West early today, police said. The Death Row Records founder, who has been in and out of jail, was wounded in the Red Room of the swanky Sky Bar at the Shore Club Hotel, witnesses said. Knight, 40, was hospitalized in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. The bash was held in advance of tonight's MTV Video Music Awards. "I heard a pop. There was an altercation and we were pushed out. I made sure Kanye was okay," said Frederick Williams of Janeff Entertainment Inc. A woman who declined to give her name said, "It was crazy because [Knight] was alone by himself looking at some girls. All of a sudden they got crazy and there was all of this shooting." It was unclear if anyone was immediately arrested. The party actually continued for a time after the gunfire, moving to the hotel's pool area, before cops shut the event down. Knight created Death Row Records with Dr. Dre in Los Angeles in the early 1990s. After several years of outstanding chart success for artists including Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Tha Dogg Pound and even MC Hammer, Death Row Records disintegrated after Knight's incarceration on parole violation charges in 1996. Knight, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 320 pounds, has frequently been implicated in the 1996 murder of Shakur and the 1997 slaying of rival The Notorious B.I.G. In 2002, British documentarian Nick Broomfield made a film called "Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur" that explored the theory that Knight masterminded Shakur's killing because the star was planning on leaving Death Row and Knight wanted to retain his unreleased tapes and royalties. Broomfield also suggested that Smalls' murder was a coverup to make Shakur's death look like part of an East Coast-West Coast conflict. Knight has vehemently denied this on several occasions, calling Shakur his "brother." Knight was released from prison in 2001 and tried to restart his label. However, in December 2002 he was jailed again for allegedly violating his probation by associating with gang members. After his release, he was arrested and jailed yet again in 2003, allegedly for assaulting a parking lot attendant. Knight was freed again on April 23, 2004. His autobiography "American Dream/American Nightmare" is due this holiday season.

Jim Jones' 'Snitchin' Video Banned By Canadian Network
Jim Jones' new video for "Baby Girl/G's Up" has been banned from Canadian television station Much Music.Word is the station didn't add the clip to its rotation because the "G's Up" part of the video features Jones' crew wearing black shirts that read "Stop Snitching" on a red octagon reminiscent of a stop sign. The Toronto, Ontario-based station reportedly banned the video featuring the shirts because they contend it encourages witnesses of crimes not to report information to law enforcement. In recent months, the Toronto area has been hit with 33 fatal shootings and even more injuries related to gun violence. Toronto police are struggling to get witnesses to cooperate and reveal information on the city's rising gun violence."I was not in any way trying to promote violence by having those t-shirts in my video. I was simply making a comment on using your integrity," Jones stated on the shirts.Jones is reportedly disappointed by the station's censorship. The Harlem rapper/executive stresses he has long been working with the community and taken a stance against violence."I do a lot of community work in Harlem and I am a Board Member of the Hip-Hop Summit Committee," Jones explained. "And this year, I will be taking part in the Million Man March, an upcoming demonstration in Washington, DC that encourages people to build communities, avoid violence, register to vote, and invest in black businesses."Jim Jones' Harlem: Diary of a Summer featuring "Baby Girl" and "G's Up" is in stores now.

Twista Rolls With Trey, Pharrell On New CD
Rapper Twista will return Oct. 4 with a new Atlantic album, "The Day After." The 14-track set is led by first single "Girl Tonite" featuring Trey Songz. The cut jumps 36-55 in its fourth week on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and can be sampled on Twista's official Web site. Although the track list is still taking shape, "The Day After" will also feature guest appearances from Jamie Foxx, the Neptunes' Pharrell Williams and Pitbull. Production was supplied by the Neptunes, Scott Storch, Timbaland, David Banner, Toxic and Cuzo."The Day After" is the follow-up to Twista's 2004 breakthrough, "Kamikaze," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.81 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.It spawned the single "Slow Jams," which was named ASCAP's No. 1 most played R&B song of 2004. The First Lady of Crunk & B, who is best known for knock-out club bangers like "Oh" and "1, 2 Step," has selected the slow jam "And I" as the fourth single from her platinum-plus debut disc, Goodies. Ciara has scorched the world's dance floors with her crunkified beats and blazed tracks with Missy Elliott and Ludacris, and now the 19-year-old is ready to tackle new musical territory: the love ballad. Ciara penned the track when she was only 15."This track really comes from my heart," the sexy-singer recently told VH1.com. "It talks about how I love someone for who they are and not what they have, you know, it's not about the money, it's not about those things. Eminem Sued Over Tour Bus Accident
A Michigan husband and wife have slapped Eminem with his second lawsuit in two weeks. On Thursday, Breck and Tina Wyngarden have filed suit against the rapper, a bus driver, and Entertainment Coaches of America over a collision that involved the rapper's Anger Management tour bus. On July 13, Eminem's Anger Management tour bus was headed to Denver from Chicago. According to published reports, the tour bus was traveling when the bus driver swerved to avoid a pair of trucks, but ended up striking another vehicle. That vehicle was The Wyngardens tractor-trailer, the couple’s lawyer told CBS Arts. The pair is seeking unspecified damages from the 32-year-old rapper. Eminem was not on the tour, but Shady Records artists like producer The Alchemist and rapper Stat Quo were. The Alchemist was treated for broken ribs and a collapsed lung, while Stat Quo suffered broken ribs. About 11 other people were injured as well. Tina Wyngarden was reportedly hospitalized, but her injuries weren't detailed at press time. Last week, Eminem was sued by a pair of relatives that said he reneged on a deal to give him a home if they relocated closer to his Detroit home. Eminem was recently admitted to the hospital for exhaustion and a dependency on sleeping medication.

65 Girls At Area School Pregnant.School To Unveil Three-Prong Program
CANTON, Ohio -- There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant, according to a recent report in the Canton Repository. The article reported that some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame. Video School officials are not sure what has contributed to so many pregnancies, but in response to them, the school is launching a three-prong educational program to address pregnancy, prevention and parenting. The newspaper also reported that students will face mounting tensions created by unplanned child-rearing responsibilities, causing students to quit school and plan for a GED. This will make it difficult for the Canton City School District to shake its academic watch designation by the state. According to the Canton Health Department, statistics through July show that 104 of the 586 babies born to Canton residents in Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center had mothers between 11 and 19. The newspaper reports that the non-Canton rate was 7 percent. Canton was 15 percent.

Dr. Dre Hoping To 'Shock' On Next Album
It's been six years since hip-hop legend Dr. Dre's last studio album, and its planned follow-up, reportedly titled "Detox," seems no closer to completion. But one of his key collaborators tells Billboard.com Dre is continuing to work on new music and still plans to release another album, even if it takes several more years to do the job right."There will be another Dr. Dre solo album, without a doubt," says bassist Mike Elizondo, who began working with the artist on the 1999 album "Dr. Dre -- 2001" and has since been a fixture on Dre-produced recordings by Xzibit, Eminem and the Game. "Dre has very high standards," Elizondo responded when asked what is taking so long. "He wants to shock the world and put something out that no one would have ever thought possible from a hip-hop artist. He's definitely going to take his time and make sure it's right, but there will be a collection of songs that will come out as a Dr. Dre solo album."However, the timetable for finishing the album remains murky. Asked if Elizondo had played on any of the tracks to date, he replied, "We've been working. There's a team assembled and we'll definitely continue moving forward on that.""Dr. Dre -- 2001" debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Cam'ron Lensing Shootout Scene For "Killa Season"
Harlem rapper Cam'ron and his DipSet crew are shooting a massive shoot-out scene today in Brooklyn as part of his upcoming gangsta musical "Killa Season." Cam, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Hell Rell and J.R. Writer will all be present for the six minute scene, which includes 2 gutted cars, dropped windows and of course, firearms. The film will incorporate 4 songs from Cam's upcoming album. "Killa Season" is the first venture through Cam's Killa Entertainment Company and will be released on DVD in conjunction with his forthcoming album also titled Killa Season due out this November. The scene will be shot today at 3pm at Cinema World Studios in Brooklyn. J.R. Writer is also readying his debut for November which will be released on Koch. Jim Jones album Harlem: Diary of a Summer is out now.

The code violation carries a potential sentence of 16 months to three years.The district attorney's office recommended bail of $50,000 for the woman, who is scheduled to surrender to authorities and be arraigned Sept. 7.At Jackson's trial, which ended in his acquittal, she invoked her Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination and refused to testify about the welfare matter. She has an unlisted phone number and could not be reached Tuesday.The Associated Press is withholding her name to protect the identity of her son.Jackson's lawyers presented evidence during his trial that she and her family had received a $150,000 settlement in a 2001 lawsuit against a department store at a time when she was claiming to be indigent. They also showed the woman was receiving money from her boyfriend to pay the rent on her apartment.The complaint filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office alleged that the woman hid from authorities the fact that she had received the settlement and also failed to report the receipt of $637 for payment of her rent in January 2003.It said the payment occurred in February 2003 but was not discovered until a social services investigator received a tip from a private investigator in February 2005, just before the Jackson trial began.The mother of the accuser was a key witness for the prosecution against Jackson. Many jurors said her lack of credibility on the witness stand was a major factor in their verdicts of not guilty.Jackson lawyer Tom Mesereau said of the welfare-related charges, "In light of the evidence at the trial, I'm not surprised. This is certainly warranted."District attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said the charges send a message that, "You're taking taxpayers' money when you steal from the welfare system. Whether it's a nickel or a lot of nickels, you can't use the welfare system as your personal piggy bank."The complaint said that between Nov. 15, 2001 and March 31, 2003, the woman received $18,782 in welfare aid to which she was not entitled.

Damon Dash's Car Smashed In Accident
SUV drags cop thru Times Sq.Pedestrians flee in panic; 6 are injured A road rage incident triggered a wild ride near Times Square yesterday - with the driver dragging a cop down the block, hitting hip-hop honcho Damon Dash's luxury car and mowing down six pedestrians. The violent chain reaction turned a crowded stretch of Broadway into a demolition derby and sent people diving from the path of a careening sport-utility vehicle. "If I didn't get up and jump as far as I can, I wouldn't be here right now talking to you," shaken victim Kevin Jones said as he was hustled into an ambulance with a bandaged ankle. Apparel salesman Jeff Greenberg, 63, barely avoided injury. "It scared the hell out of me," he said. "I consider myself lucky to be alive today." The mayhem was sparked by a dispute at 2:30 p.m. between two drivers on Broadway, just north of W. 40th St. The argument caught the attention of NYPD Lt. John McAndrew, and when the cop approached the SUV, a black Honda CR-V, and asked driver Hugo Palomino, 51, for ID, a glassine envelope with white powder believed to be cocaine fell out of the car, police said. Palomino, of Harrison, Westchester County, hit the gas and sped down Broadway with McAndrew hanging out of the car, authorities said. "Half of his body was out the window and the other half was inside," said Dwight Hayes, 36. As McAndrew wrestled for control of the vehicle, the Honda blew a red light, clipped an armored car and slammed into a Mercedes-Benz, witnesses said. The Mercedes belonged to Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, who came running shirtless out of 1411 Broadway to check the car. The Honda kept going, jumping the curb and rolling across Golda Meir Plaza between W. 39th and W. 40th Sts., where dozens of people were enjoying the beautiful afternoon. The SUV stopped when it hit a large planter. Six people, including British tourist Pat Wren, suffered minor injuries. "I didn't see what happened until I was on the ground," she said. Palomino, who has a prior arrest for drunken driving, bolted from the car and charged across Broadway. Cops caught up to him at Sixth Ave. and 39th St. He was charged with drug possession, leaving the scene of an accident and assault. His passenger, Victoria Chasen, 27, of Manhattan was charged with drug possession. Cops also found a three-quarters-full bottle of Belvedere vodka in the SUV.

Mark Ecko won a victory yesterday (August 22) against New York City and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, when a judge ordered the city to reinstate a permit for Mark Ecko Enterprises to conduct an outdoor art exhibition featuring graffiti artists and images of subway cars. Judge Jed Rakoff ruled yesterday that Ecko's proposed graffiti exhibit is protected by the First Amendment.Ecko Enterprises originally received a permit on July 18 for a block party designed to present graffiti as an art form, but it was revoked after the Mayor raised concerns about promoting graffiti, a issue that has plagued the city for years. Ecko Enterprises has offered to disavow unlawful conduct by making statements discouraging unlawful graffiti at the art exhibition itself or by organizing artists to convey that message in the public schools. The Graffiti Exhibit will take place on August 24th on West 22nd St. between 10th and 11th Avenues in New York City. Snoop's Football League Sparks Controversy
Snoop Dogg's new youth football league is a hot item in Southern California. Two years ago, Snoop began coaching his son's team in the Orange County Junior All-American Football Conference, luring children from other squads with his star power. Players watched game video inside a school bus equipped with DVD players, TV screens and a booming sound system. The rapper and sometime actor also made personal phone calls to draw in top talent, and last year his Rowland Raiders went undefeated en route to a league championship. They also went on to win the "Snooperbowl," held a day before the Super Bowl, and took home custom-made trophies donated by Tiffany & Co. for their effort. Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, is taking things to the next level this year, creating his own Southern California league. He lowered fees for joining a team from $175 or more to $100, which covers the cost of cleats and pads. He also loosened residency requirements. Children and some coaches have flocked to the eight-chapter Snoop Youth Football League, leaving supporters of old leagues dejected and wondering whether they were used. "I'm mad at Coach Snoop," said 10-year-old Xavier Bernal, a player for the Rowland Raiders. "He was so cool; he told me to play my heart out and to play everything I've got. But now I just want to ask him, why did he take all our players?" Nevertheless, a movie documenting the effort, and titled "Coach Snoop," is reported to be in the works. "It's so easy for a kid to join a gang, to do drugs," Snoop said. "We should make it that easy to be involved in football and academics."

Nas did not pay $2 million for a beat
At the end of June there was a rumor that Nas paid $2 million for a Neptunes beat after a bidding war between himself and P Diddy. Busta Rhymes, who had no part in the supposed deal, was apparently quoted as saying "Ah shit, thats the craziest beat, I ever heard! Those drums man, Those drums are fire! If Nas is gonna rap to this beat, its going to be over. This will be the biggest hit in the history of hiphop!" Refrained from posting the news as we usually prefer to let false rumors die down on their own accord instead of giving attention to the people that start such lies. However it seems the rumor has been circulating the Internet again and we've been getting a ton of emails asking when the song would come out and if it was the 50 Cent diss. Let us set the record straight once and for all. Spoke with Columbia when the rumor first hit, and Nas did not pay $2 million for a beat, the story is totally false. The Busta Rhymes quote is false; someone made it all up. So stop emailing in and posting your false Nas "scoops."

Merck & Co. found liable in nation's first Vioxx trial
ANGLETON, Texas (AP)? A Texas jury found pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. liable for the death of a man who took the once-popular painkiller Vioxx. Jurors awarded Robert Ernst's widow, Carol, $253.4 million in damages, which is a combination of his lost pay as a Wal-Mart produce manager, mental anguish, loss of companionship and punitive damages. The case drew national attention from pharmaceutical companies, lawyers, consumers, stock analysts and arbitragers as a signal of what lies ahead for Merck, which has vowed to fight the more than 4,200 state and federal Vioxx-related lawsuits pending across the country. Merck said it plans to appeal. A seven-man, five-woman jury from a semi-rural county south of Houston deliberated for 10 1/2 hours over two days before blaming the drug for killing Ernst in his sleep in 2001. Jurors rejected Merck's argument that Ernst died of clogged arteries rather than a Vioxx-induced heart attack that led to his fatal arrhythmia. In Texas, punitive damages are capped at twice the amount of economic damages? lost pay? and up to $750,000 on top of non-economic damages, which are comprised of mental anguish and loss of companionship. Non-economic damages have no limit in Texas except in medical malpractice cases, which doesn't apply to the Ernst case. Shares of Merck & Co. fell $1.01, or 3.3 percent, to $29.40 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange after the verdict.

Grammy-winning singer Marc Cohn says he felt "terror, disbelief" when he was shot in the head, and he prayed he would not be taken from his children and his wife, ABC News anchor Elizabeth Vargas. Cohn, best known for the hit song "Walking in Memphis," was wounded during a botched carjacking as he and his band left a Denver show on Aug. 7. Medical experts have said his survival was a miracle. "I touched myself, and it was blood all over my hands and my clothes," he told ABC News in an interview airing tonight on "2-0/20," which his wife co-anchors. "Every second that passed by, I thought, that's the last one. That's the last second I'll be here. Please don't let me die, I have children, I have a wife," said Cohn, 46, who has a son with Vargas and two children from a previous marriage. "It was terror, disbelief and just a prayer. Just please don't let this be it, because...it almost seemed just like...this wasn't supposed to be the end." Cohn survived because the bullet lodged in the flesh in his face, slowing it before it hit the skull. Vargas recalled her shock when her husband told her on the phone that he'd been shot. . The first thing I thought is, how can you be talking to me if you've been shot in the head?" "One man's art is another man's trash," said Ecko, a former graffiti artist. Bloomberg spoke out against the event after City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-Queens) objected to the block party in a story in Monday's Daily News. Yesterday, Ecko said he doesn't condone illegal activity, but he also doesn't support censorship. His lawyer, Daniel Perez, said the graffiti is constitutionally protected free speech. But Bloomberg's spokesman Ed Skyler disagreed. "The city isn't obligated to permit an event on a public street that encourages the vandalism of subway cars in the name of selling T-shirts and video games," Skyler said, referring to Ecko's new graffiti video game, "Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure." Meanwhile, a graffiti writer who allegedly threatened Vallone after he complained about the festival has been arrested. Fernando Carlo, whose tag name is Cope2, was charged with aggravated harassment, police said.

Ex-AOLer sold email list to spammers A 25-year-old former America Online employee who admitted he became a cyberspace outlaw when he sold all 92 million screen names and e-mail addresses to spammers was sentenced Wednesday to a year and three months in prison. “I know I’ve done something very wrong,he soft-spoken and teary eyed Jason Smathers told U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein as he apologized for a theft that resulted in spammers sending out up to 7 billion unsolicited e-mails. The Internet is not lawless was the lesson of the case, said Assistant U.S. Attorney David Siegal. The public at large has an interest in making sure people respect the same values that apply in everyday life, on the Internet,Siegal said. Smathers lawyer, Jeffrey Hoffman, called the theft a “dumb, stupid, insane act hat his client feels terrible about. Smathers apologized to a half dozen members of his family who had flown from California and Indiana to attend the sentencing as Hellerstein credited the former Harpers Ferry, W. Va., resident for his contrition and efforts to help the government. Earlier this year, he had pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in a plea deal had called for a sentence of at least a year and a half in prison. In a letter from Smathers to the court that was read partially into the record by Siegal, Smathers tried to explain the crimes that AOL has said cost the company at least $300,000 and possibly millions of dollars. Cyberspace is a new and strange place,Siegal said Smathers wrote. I was good at navigating in that frontier and I became an outlaw.The judge imposed the reduced sentence of one year and three months, saying he recognized Smathers cooperated fully but lacked information to build other criminal cases. He said leniency was appropriate for someone who tries hard to bare his soul but doesn't have the information the government needs.In December, Hellerstein said he was not convinced Smathers had committed a crime, but he accepted the plea in February when he said prosecutors had sufficiently explained why he had. Smathers admitted accepting $28,000 from someone who wanted to pitch an offshore gambling site to AOL customers, knowing that the list of screen names might make its way to others who would send e-mail solicitations. The judge has recommended that Smathers be forced to pay $84,000 in restitution, triple what he earned. He delayed the order to let AOL prove the damages were higher. The judge suggested the $300,000 damage figure was speculative. Prosecutors said Smathers had engaged in the interstate transportation of stolen property and had violated a new federal CAN-SPAM law, short for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, which is meant to diminish unsolicited e-mail messages about everything from herbal penile enlargement pills to mortgages. In December, the judge said he had dropped his own AOL membership because he received too much spam. America Online Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner Inc., has since launched a major assault on spam, significantly reducing unsolicited e-mails. Smathers was fired by AOL in June 2004. Authorities said he used another employee’s access code to steal the list of AOL customers in 2003 from its headquarters in Dulles, Va. Smathers allegedly sold the list to Sean Dunaway, of Las Vegas, who used it to send unwanted gambling advertisements to subscribers of AOL, the world’s largest Internet provider. Charges are pending against Dunaway. The stolen list of 92 million AOL addresses included multiple addresses used by each of AOL’s estimated 30 million customers. It is believed to be still circulating among spammers. The judge refused a Probation Department recommendation that Smathers be banned from his profession, saying he trusted Smathers had learned his lesson.

Def Jam Enterprises and Electronic Arts have extended an already successful partnership that will ensure the release of several video game titles exclusively over a number of years. The first game to be released under the new deal will be Def Jam 3,the sequel to the successful games “Def Jam Vendetta and Def Jam Fight for NY.Def Jam 3,another street fighting game, is currently being designed in EA's Chicago offices, according to a corporate press release. Mase Joining G-Unit.Diddy All For It
50 Cent is not exactly hip-hop's version of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner (at least not yet), but he certainly has been bolstering the lineup at his G-Unit Records over the past few weeks with some high-profile signings, namely Mobb Deep and M.O.P. And now, apparently, he has one more player throwing his team's jersey on: onetime Bad Boy Records flag-waver Mase.If a rapping minister running with a new-school version of N.W.A sounds outlandish, well, think again. Last week Mase came out onstage with Young Buck during a New York stop of the Anger Management Tour, and later in the week during an interview with Whoo Kid on Sirius' G-Unit Radio program, Mase himself explained the alliance as more than a one-off. He told 50's DJ that he was in fact working on new music and shopping for a new record deal."It seems at this point it's gonna be on G-Unit," Mase said. Mase also divulged that since he's been back to the music game, the only two people who have contacted him about a deal have been Jay-Z and 50 Cent."When I came back to Bad Boy, they didn't want me to go where I wanted to go [with the music]," he said about the content of his comeback LP, last year's Welcome Back. "They wanted me to do what was safe for them. I had to pretty much sabotage myself. Everybody knows who I am."I ain't going to be 50," the Harlem native continued about what his new material is going to sound like. B'day girl Madonna's rough ride.Multiple fractures in fall
Madonna got knocked off her high horse yesterday and wound up in the hospital with three cracked ribs, a busted collarbone and a broken hand. The superstar was celebrating her 47th birthday by riding a new mount on the grounds of her country estate outside London when she took the nasty spill. "She was clearly in agony and in floods of tears," one source told London's Daily Mirror. Her husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, and her two children, 8-year-old Lourdes and 5-year-old Rocco, were on the grounds but not riding with her. Ritchie gallantly rushed his wife to the hospital, where doctors patched her up and released her several hours later, spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said. "I think she's probably in a lot of pain. Broken ribs are quite painful," Rosenberg said. "But she's itching to get up and move around, knowing Madonna." Madonna is a novice equestrian who started riding four or five months ago - part of her surprising transformation from Material Girl to Lady of the Manor. She has one horse she regularly rides but decided to take another one yesterday when she went out for a late afternoon trot with her assistant, Rosenberg said. The details of her tumble were unclear, but the owner of a London riding school where she took lessons said switching to an unfamiliar beast may have been a mistake. "Anyone who rides a new horse has to be careful," said Richard Turner of Stag Lodge Stables in Richmond Park. After a few lessons, Madonna borrowed a couple of horses from the stable in July, but she has since returned them and they weren't involved in the accident. "I'm very upset and worried," Turner said after hearing of the accident. "She was very lovely and polite." Madonna's fall could have been far worse - "Superman" star Christopher Reeve was paralyzed after being thrown during a jump - but the injuries will still cramp her style. Eminem's Aunt & Uncle Take Rapper To Court
Superstar rapper Eminem has been hit with a lawsuit by his aunt and uncle in an unusual claim filed in Macomb County Court, a lawyer confirmed. Jack and Betti Schmitt claim that they sold their Missouri home because the Detroit rapper wanted to maintain family ties. The lawsuit says that Eminem built the Schmitt’s a home and promised to pay them $100,000 per year.The lawsuit further states that the rapper refuses to put the title in the Schmitt's name and that he has fallen short on his promise to pay them the $100,000.The couple is seeking at least $25,000, as the Macomb County Circuit Court handles all civil cases involving at least that amount. They are represented by Kevin Green, an attorney in Shelby Township, Michigan. Green confirmed the lawsuit, but declined further comment.The rapper recently cancelled his European leg of the "Anger Management 3" tour due to exhaustion and other related medical issues.Interscope confirmed the rapper was being treated for various medical ailments, but none were specifically named.Representatives for Eminem did not have comments as of press time.

She sez Tyson tried to force sex, drugs
Mike Tyson is denying explosive new charges that he grabbed a woman off an Italian dance floor, dragged her to his yacht and pummeled her when she refused to indulge in sex and drugs. The washed-up boxing champ cooperated with police when they tracked him down on a ritzy yacht in the Mediterranean, where he is living it up on a tour of the watering holes of the rich and famous. "He was more than happy to talk to police and invited the officers on board, saying he was a 'good boy' and not a 'killer,'" an Italian police officer told the Scotsman newspaper. A magistrate is considering whether to bring charges. Florence Botoli, 33, a Cameroonian who lives in Nice, France, told police she was dancing with friends at the Billionaire nightclub in Sardinia when Tyson grabbed her. Paris Hilton was at a nearby table, minus her fiance, but Iron Mike didn't recognize her when she waved, the LaStampa newspaper reported. Botoli alleged Tyson, 39, brought her to the 100-foot yacht, the Summer Wind, and beat her when she refused to do drugs and have sex with him. "There was a white powder on a tray. It was cocaine. Tyson took some, a lot, and then started hitting me," Botoli said, according to a police report quoted by the Scotsman. "He tried to force my head down into the powder, but I don't do drugs," she alleged. "He said he wanted to have sex with me. But when I said 'no' and didn't take the drugs, he went mad. He punched me and then threw me to the floor." Botoli, who posed for Italian newspapers showing bruises on her left side, said she saw stars. "Tyson kept shouting at me until his bodyguard told him to calm down and stop because he was going over the top," she reportedly said. She said a bodyguard helped smuggle her off the yacht in a dinghy and she went to the emergency room at Olbia hospital in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. The incident took place Aug. 6, but was not made public until a Sardinian paper broke the news over the weekend. Tyson's lawyer could not be reached, and his manager did not return phone calls. Brooklyn-born Tyson reached the pinnacle of boxing - heavyweight champion of the world - but his fame was tarnished by an out-of-control temper. He went to jail for three years in 1992 for raping beauty queen Desiree Washington and was briefly banned from boxing when he bit a chunk out of Evander Holyfield's ear in 1997. He filed for bankruptcy in 2003, saying he had but $5,000 in the bank, and announced he was retiring from boxing. He has variously expressed interest in either missionary work or the porn business. Tyson's recent Mediterranean escapades - cavorting on the beach with beautiful women, schmoozing with famous pals like Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham - have been eagerly documented in the Italian papers.

Murder Charges Against Cassidy Lowered
Murder charges against Philadelphia rapper Cassidy were lowered today (August 16) in court. The charges against the rapper were dropped from first-degree murder to third-degree murder, stemming from a shooting behind his Philadelphia row home.Municipal court Judge Marsha Niefield ordered the 23-year-old rapper to stand trial on the third-degree murder charge.The charges stem from an April 15 shooting in Philadelphia. Cassidy, born Barry Reese, is charged with murdering 22-year-old Desmond Hawkins and wounding Daniel Irvin, 22, and Bobby Hoyle, 21 after a dispute earlier in the day. The men allegedly came to Cassidy’s Philadelphia home to make peace,but were instead met with a barrage of gunfire as they sat in their parked car.Irvin and Hoyle were wounded while Hawkins died at the Albert Einstein Medical Center.During preliminary hearings, Cassidy's case was bolstered when one of the victims admitted under oath that he initially lied to police and had not actually seen the rapper fire a weapon."I wanted to go home,Bobby Hoyle said during the preliminary hearings. “I had a bullet in my leg that they didn't take out, and I didn't have any rest for three days."Prosecutors claim that Cassidy and or his associates fired at least four guns. The DA prosecuting the case said that the ruling would be appealed.

A gentler jailhouse. Surprise searches cutting rate of Rikers stabbings
Crime is down - even among criminals. The number of slashings and stabbings among city jail inmates plunged 25% during the past fiscal year, falling to a nearly 10-year low, the Daily News has learned. Thirty prisoners were stabbed or slashed last year compared with 40 the year before. Both numbers are a far cry from 1995, when there were 1,093 knife attacks in city jails. "The number of serious assaults are so low now, it will be hard to get them any lower," Martin Horn, commissioner of the city Department of Correction, told The News. "Inmates are grasping at straws, because there's not much left to make weapons out of," Horn said. Crudely crafted shanks used to be the weapons of choice among inmates, but jailhouse disputes are now settled with pencils, pieces of plastic and toothbrushes. Correction Department officials attribute the steady decline in violence to an increase in random contraband sweeps, tougher prosecution of jailhouse crimes and better intelligence-gathering techniques. The 10 jails on Rikers Island are equipped with metal detectors and searched regularly. The News observed one of the contraband sweeps, known as a tactical search operation, at the Adolescent Reception Detention Center at Rikers. The show of force began about 8 a.m. on Aug. 3, when more than 200 correction officers filed into the center, which houses about 1,400 men and boys 16 to 18. Several officers were from the Emergency Service Unit, sporting helmets and carrying riot shields. An enthusiastic special search team, armed with mirrors, fiber-optic probes and a tall officer nicknamed Tree, tackled one of the high-risk wings. They had to think like the inmates, anticipating hidden weapons where no one else would think to look - in light fixtures, behind electrical outlets and tucked within window frames. Within minutes, Tree - Officer Robert Ellis, 6 feet 5 - found a metal spoke ripped from a fan. It was 8 inches long, its tip sharpened and hidden in an overhead ventilation duct in a janitor's closet. "It's a common hiding place," he said. On a different floor, inmates were strip-searched and lined up outside of their cells while holding their mattresses. One officer used a security wand to check for metal in the mattresses, while another combed through the 8-by-7-foot cells for drugs and weapons. An officer found a small bag of tobacco and rolling papers, which will likely earn the inmate 30 days in isolation. Like drugs, tobacco is banned in jails. Cigarettes used to be a reason for extortion, fights and thefts among inmates, said Robert Cripps, a deputy warden. "Now they fight over who was first on line to get a meal or who was first on line to use the telephone," he said. "Sometimes they fight to establish hierarchy." With fewer weapons, serious assaults against correction officers dropped about 23% last year, to 44 from 57. Norman Seabrook, president of the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association, said housing inmates is still a dangerous job. He cited a vicious June beating of a rookie officer. Officers are not armed. "All we have is pepper spray and a personal body alarm and hope for the best," Seabrook said. With the decrease in violence, correction officials are tightening their focus on drugs. They arrested more than 350 visitors in the past fiscal year trying to sneak narcotics into jails. Baby-sitter horror. Dying woman IDs suspect after rape, beating with hammer
A Brooklyn baby-sitter raped and bludgeoned with a hammer yesterday identified a man still in the house as her attacker as her life slipped away, police sources said. Cops, who had failed to enter the apartment on an earlier 911 run, found Sharlene Francis, 20, partially clothed in a pool of her own blood in a bedroom at the Stanley Ave. home yesterday morning. The baby-sitter, whose birthday was Friday, had been beaten savagely with a hammer. The 2-year-old she was caring for was splattered with her baby-sitter's blood. "It was nasty, senseless, brutal," a police source said. "With her dying declaration, she said she was [raped]. Then she pointed him out," the source said. Police arrested Richard Thorne, 36, boyfriend of the toddler's grandmother, in the vicious slaying. Francis had been baby-sitting at the East New York home Saturday night and agreed to stay overnight so the child's mother could go out after getting home from work about 10 p.m. Francis was still at the home about 7 a.m. when she placed a frantic 911 call saying she was being attacked, sources said. Patrol officers tried to get into the home for more than 30 minutes and got an answering machine when they called the home number, sources said. The police left, but came back 10 to 12 minutes later after a second 911 call from the home. This time it was Thorne telling cops that a man had broken into the home and was killing his baby-sitter, sources said. "He was trying to make up a cover story," a police source said. When police returned, a blood-soaked Thorne answered the door, police and neighbors said. "He had blood on his shirt, blood on his pants, on his hands and on his arms," said Salvador Hernandez, 38, a deli worker who saw Thorne later led away in handcuffs. The baby-sitter was conscious when cops arrived, but later died at Brookdale University Hospital. A hammer and two knives were removed from the home. "I want people to know that she's beautiful, that she had a good heart, that's she's a good family person," said the young woman's stepfather, Elijah Muhammad. He dreaded telling Francis' half brother, 10-year-old Elijah Jr., that she was dead. "Now I have to tell my son that he doesn't have a sister," he said. Later in the day, Carla Owens, who lived at the home and dated Thorne, came to get clothing and toys for her granddaughter Kayeema, whose striped jumper had been splattered with her baby-sitter's blood, sources said. "I still don't know what happened," Owens said. "My granddaughter's all right, thank God."

TVT Records and Slip-N-Slide Records will head to court August 26 over unreleased material by Miami, Florida rapper Pitbull. According to a report in the Miami Herald, the two labels are battling over the release of Welcome to the 305, an album that contains material Pitbull recorded before signing with TVT.The Slip-N-Slide recordings were tracked in 2001, before the rapper signed to TVT. Slip-N-Slide claims Pitbull signed over all rights to the recordings when they granted the rapper a release in 2003 to sign with TVT.TVT President Steven Gottlieb said that Slip-N-Slide was exploiting the investment they had made to make Pitbull a worldwide star.''TVT has invested substantial time, effort and resources to develop Prez [Pitbull] as an artist and to develop, market and release the M.I.A.M.I. album on a worldwide basis,'' Gottlieb said in court papers.Pitbull's debut album M.I.A.M.I. Fugitive Couple Captured at Ohio Hotel. Police Say Wife Shot Guard to Spring Husband from Prison
KINGSTON, Tenn. (Aug. 11) - A fugitive inmate and his wife, wanted in a brazen courthouse escape and shooting in Tennessee, were captured Wednesday night at an Ohio motel after a tip from a cab driver who had dropped them off, authorities said.George Hyatte and Jennifer Forsyth Hyatte were in a room at an America's Best Value Inn in Columbus and were arrested without a struggle, said Mark Gwyn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation."We have found weapons," he said. "We don't know if it's the murder weapon, but we're processing those as we speak."On Tuesday, authorities say Jennifer Hyatte, 31, ambushed two guards as they were leading her 34-year-old husband from a courthouse hearing in Kingston, Tenn., about 300 miles south of Columbus. Guard Wayne "Cotton" Morgan was fatally shot in the escape.Jennifer Hyatte had some injuries, Gwyn said, but he declined to elaborate.He said the couple would be brought back to Tennessee on warrants for first degree murder.Authorities had already tracked the Hyattes to the Cincinnati area when they got a tip around 9 p.m. that the couple was at the Columbus motel. A cab driver who had apparently driven them to Columbus from Erlanger, Ky., just south of Cincinnati, called Erlanger police, U.S. Marshal John Schickel said.He declined to give any additional information or identify the cab driver.After the tip, authorities surrounded the Columbus motel, said John Bolen, a supervisor for the U.S. Marshals Service in Columbus.Authorities called the motel room where the couple was staying, told them they were surrounded, and the couple came out of their room and surrendered around 10 p.m., Bolen said. They didn't say anything during the arrest, he said.Jennifer Hyatte came out of the second-floor room with her hands up, said motel guest Robin Penn, who was watching from her first-floor window across the parking lot.The woman was limping but followed officers' instructions to walk down the balcony to a stairwell and get on her knees, where she was handcuffed, Penn said. She said the man came out next, with his shirt pulled over his head. He walked backward toward the stairwell, then got on his knees and authorities handcuffed him, Penn said.There were at least 25 officers on the motel balcony and in the parking lot, she said.Earlier in the day, authorities had tracked down a van the couple was believed to have used, finding it outside a motel in Erlanger. The couple was gone, but authorities knew then that they were getting close.Blood had been found in the motel room, and an employee at a nearby restaurant told federal agents she had given directions that day to a couple she later recognized as the fugitives.Jennifer Hyatte had been a prison nurse when she met her future husband. She was fired last year for sneaking food to him but a few months later, she got permission from the warden to marry him.George Hyatte had a long and violent criminal record. Before the escape Tuesday, he had been in court on a robbery charge.It was at least the fifth time he had gotten way from law enforcement officials. Surprisingly, a good amount of the NYC audience screamed when the rapper asked them if they were down with G-Unot. 50 then told G-Unotters to instead "buy Game's album, and go make me rich." He then proceeded to insult fans, referring to a front row concert-goer as a "monkey-looking motherfucka." Stunned by the lack of crowd participation, 50 even got teary-eyed and continued to complain a few more minutes before resuming the show. Game Signs On To Play Vicious Criminal In 'Waist Deep'
He's already completed The Documentary? so now it's time for a feature. Game has signed on to play a vicious criminal leader named Meat in the forthcoming "Waist Deep."The film, an urban action-thriller written and directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall ("Redemption," "Gridlock'd," and, er, "Glitter"), already features Tyrese, Meagan Good and Larenz Tate."Waist Deep" follows the story of ex-con O2 (Tyrese), who is trying to go straight for the sake of his son. But like so many celluloid ex-cons before him, he's forced to go outside the law one more time, and with good reason: Meat (Game) has carjacked and kidnapped O2's son.O2's cousin (Tate) is caught between two worlds and proves to be little help, so Coco (Good), a street-smart hustler, steps in. After 300G payout, Hot 97 hopes things cool off
By agreeing to a $300,000 settlement with state Attorney General Elliot Spitzer this week over its Smackfest contest, WQHT (97.1 FM) is clearly hoping this discussion now will go away. But things are rarely that simple with Hot 97 these days. Smackfest, for those who tuned in late, had two listeners square off in Hot's studio and slap each other, five slaps apiece. The on-air staff narrated and picked a winner on criteria like energy and enthusiasm. Critics, including City Councilmen John Liu, Charles Barron and others, said the contest was demeaning and promoted violence. Spitzer's office found that it violated New York's "combative sports statute" (Section 5-A of the "Boxing, Wrestling and Sparring" law) that requires a license for an event where people hit each other. This is hardly the first radio contest in which listeners voluntarily did odd and potentially humiliating things to win prizes. It's certainly no more bizarre than people eating worms on "reality" TV. WQHT's contest drew some complaints when it started in mid-2004, but not enough to prevent its resumption in January. Then the "Tsunami Song" came along. That ill-advised parody, which used racial slurs and seemed to mock victims of December's Indian Ocean tsunami, caused such a storm that Hot 97 fired morning show producer Rick Delgado and personality Todd Lynn, suspended the rest of the morning team for two weeks, made a $1 million tsunami relief donation and lost several million ad dollars. All of which was not enough for critics. Noting assertions by Lynn and others that Hot 97 management approved the "Tsunami Song," critics wanted higher-ups held accountable. They wanted the whole morning team fired and a larger relief donation. Liu called for $10 million. But Hot 97 said it had done enough, which spurred critics to keep pressing wherever they could - like against Smackfest. Now, Smackfest was always a little strange, if only because it was a visual event in a nonvisual medium. Emmis President Rick Cummings seemed to be employing a bit of understatement this week when he said, "It wasn't our finest hour." Still, it's hard to believe the Legislature was thinking of radio station contests when it passed the statute. Regardless of its sociological merit, Smackfest likely would have come and gone if it hadn't been sucked into the "Tsunami" whirlwind. Emmis can't say that, however. Emmis, wisely, is being as publicly contrite and conciliatory as possible these days - there are other potential fires out there. Hot's critics have vowed to keep filing complaints with the FCC over alleged on-air profanity, citing a recent morning-show chat with Method Man. So far this year, the FCC has levied exactly zero dollars in content fines. But it just hired Penny Nance, a self-described conservative Christian and anti-pornography crusader, as a "special adviser" expected to work on indecency matters. On another front, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said Monday that the agency will look into payola charges raised in another recent Spitzer probe. Spitzer focused on record companies that made improper payments, and he urged the FCC to look at the radio side of those deals. That could force WQHT, and many other stations, to answer more questions. Meanwhile, none of this seems to bother listeners much. 'Suge' Knight Fined, Drug Charge Dropped
Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight was fined $691 Friday after pleading no contest to making an illegal U turn and driving without insurance, authorities said. A marijuana possession charge was dismissed.Knight, 40, was jailed for more than a week after his arrest Feb. 5, and the San Bernardino County sheriff's department said at the time that marijuana was found in the Ford pickup truck he was driving.Prosecutors agreed to drop a drug possession charge after finding insufficient evidence to support it, said James Hill, supervisor of the district attorney's office in Barstow. A parole agent investigated independently and reached the same conclusion, said Marty O'Neal, chief deputy regional parole administrator.Knight was, however, in technical violation of his parole for traveling more than 50 miles from his home, O'Neal said. The record mogul, whose label once dominated the rap world, was ordered to undergo electronic monitoring until he was discharged from parole April 24, O'Neal said.Plea documents for the traffic violations were filed Friday in Municipal Court in Barstow, Hill said.Knight's attorney Dermot Givens said the California Institution for Men in Chino took cash and a 16-carat diamond earring from Knight when he entered the prison, but never returned either. There was no immediate response to a telephone message left at the prison.A teenage woman who was in the truck with Knight at the time was also arrested. Alexis Wilkinson of Las Vegas, was charged with providing false information to police and was released, Hill said. That case is pending.Knight, whose stable of artists in the 1990s included West Coast stars like Snoop Dogg and 2Pac, was released from prison in 2001 after serving time for assault and weapons violations. He continues to operate his label, now called Tha Row, but has had no commercially successful releases in years.Barstow is about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

も~~頭にくる事件で、痛ましい事件だ。第一に、子供だけでオフロに放置まずないでしょう。そして、酒に酔う、ドラック服用でハイでお湯の熱にも気づかないなんて。熱くて苦しくてごめんね。二人のSOULがGODに救くわれますように願ってます。 こないだも、生後二日目の赤ちゃんがごみ置きに放置された。幸い命は救われたけど。何だか異常な事件多過ぎ。たまに日本のニュース見るけど、虐待事件が目立つなぁ。 《私のパソコンまだ調子悪いので、簡単に説明します。》2才と1才の子供の両親が酒、麻薬を服用して寝て、子供二人をバスタブに置き去りして、火傷、溺死させた事件です。お母さんが酒を飲みベットで寝ていて、お父さんが二人の子供をオフロに入れた。しかしそれが熱いお湯でそのまま放置した。お父さんがその時ドラックを服用しそして、寝た。1時間後にお母さんが二人の子供の異常に気づいて、911に救急車を呼んで、病院に運んだけが、子供の火傷の状態が悪く死亡した。 この二人は刑務所に長くいる事になるでしょう。 Drowned tots' parents were wasted, cops charge The parents of the two toddlers who drowned in scalding water were sleeping in a drug- and alcohol-induced haze as their kids died, authorities said yesterday. David Maldonado, 31, and Luz Arroyo, 25, stood impassively as the charges against them were read in Yonkers City Court, but relatives wept as the judge detailed the deaths of 2-year-old Elijaha and 1-year-old David Jr. The little brothers perished in the bathtub of their parents' Yonkers home Friday morning, drowning in water so hot it made the walls of the apartment steam, prosecutors said. Arroyo was accused of "voluntarily being intoxicated" while her children were "severely burned and died." Maldonado, who is Arroyo's boyfriend and David Jr.'s father, allegedly turned on the hot water, left the bathroom and fell asleep next to Arroyo, according to the criminal complaint. His family defended him outside court. "He was a good father. He took care of his kids like any father would," said his cousin, Jose Rios. "You really have to know them. You have to know the situation." The hot water - which investigators said may have been used as a disciplinary measure - flooded the apartment and poured out into a common hallway, tipping off neighbors that something was wrong. When cops arrived, they found the couple clutching their unconscious children. Both badly burned boys were rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors could not save them. Child welfare officials had been watching the family for signs of abuse for several months, making unannounced visits at their Cromwell Towers home after a complaint. At the Towers yesterday, a makeshift memorial of teddy bears and flowers drew mourners, including neighbors who insisted the couple were good parents. Arroyo was charged yesterday with two counts of criminally negligent homicide. Maldonado was charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon - a handgun found in the home. Arroyo has a lengthy rap sheet, including two 2001 arrests for loitering for prostitution, and Maldonado has a previous conviction for assaulting a cop in Yonkers, according to Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy.
