Akira Onozukais a keyboardist ofDIMENSION, an electric jazz group in Japan. At the same time, he is performing also as a solo pianist, and this is his second solo work. Onozuka talked at a concert in Osaka on March 9, 2011
that he likes outdoor activities -camping, hiking and trekking. He often visits Hokkaido. " Rera
" means "wind" in word of Ainu -aboriginal population in Hokkaido. As this title shows, it includes two more songs expressing "wind": Land Breeze
" -originally a song of DIMENSION-, and " High Wind
". As I heard that at the concert, I felt that his solo works reminds me of Michael Gettel
, who has created various albums expressing nature. Some people might recognize his albums " Winter
" and " Places in Time
". I think that Onozuka's solo works would sound more like New Age music like Michael Gettel than Jazz, and it wouldn't sound strange if his albums were on shelves of the label Michael Gettel belongs to. Some more songs describing nature and views in Hokkaido are included in this album: " Owl's Eye
" -Onozuka says that his image of "owl" is Blakiston's fish owl, one of the endangered species in Hokkaido. High Grown Cafe
" is a name of cafe in Sapporo, where we can enjoy night views of Sapporo. Onozuka said that he would like listeners to feel the views of nature from his music
.
However...
Who would ever know that a massive earthquake would hit Japan on March 11, 2011
Large regions on the Pacific coast in Tohoku were destroyed by the earthquake and enormous tsunamis. Fortunately, there were little damages caused at the area where I live in. But some of my relatives live in Akita -Sea of Japan side in Tohoku. Fortunately, none of them was injured. As the daily life came back to me, I couldn't help thinking of " Gift from God
" in this album: Onozuka said that it's about a small lake in Hokkaido. This lake is so beautiful that it's admired as "gift from God". "Gift from God" is not only beautiful things in nature, but also daily life and people we have encountered
. The first thing I decided to start was to save electricity. I think if we save electricity and gasoline, the fuel for generation could be used for stricken area
. I'm ready to do whatever I can do to support victims, even little by little. And - let me take this occasion to place my gratitude for various support from all over the world
.
