New Year vacation
A new year has begun. We enjoyed eating traditional New Year dishesmy wife bought though the Internet. I got up in the morning and atethree meals with my families regularly every day. We bought a kiteand enjoyed letting out it at a park. I think that this New Yearvacation was fulfilling although we didn't go to any distant places.

Airport hotel
Recently I'm too busy to write this diary every day. This week I wentto Tokyo twice to attend some meetings in the morning. I have to getup very early if I take the Shinkansen or airplane to go there, so Istayed at the hotel in the Osaka airport last night for the first time.It was very convenient to check in the early flight.

Dish washing machine
Dish washing machine in my house broke this Monday. We bought itjust before our marriage ten years ago. We replaced other electricproducts such as refrigerator, television and microwave.The dish washing machine has been used almost every day, so I thinkit had good keeping quality. We will go to buy new one this weekend.

Umbrella
I went to Nagoya to have a meeting about a joint study with teachersand students this afternoon. I brought my umbrella because the weatherforecast called for rain this afternoon, but eventually it was not rainyin both Nagoya and Kobe today. I go to my wife's brother's new housewith my family tomorrow.

Fruit farm
We visited a fruit farm to view maple leaves and today. Koto collectedmany acorns and pine cones to bring them to her school tomorrow.Kiko enjoyed blowing bubbles and I took her photos. It was not so coldtoday so we went to a large forest park then. We enjoyed our holiday.

Supernova explosion
I watched a TV program which focused on a star in the Orion. Is is knownthat the star finishes its life and burst soon. According to the program,we will be able to see extremely bright light just after the explosion.Specialists in the area expect that we can see the bright light for aboutthree months. I want to see it.

A lot of e-mails
It got cold suddenly this morning. I went to Osaka University withmy co-worker to have a meeting with teachers this afternoon.I am so busy that I sent and received a lot of e-mails while I tooksome trains. It was lucky that the meeting finished at short timesso I came back home early and had a dinner with my family.

We attended Koto's awarding ceremony today. Her poem won the awardat the poem society of Hyogo prefecture. She received the certificateand read her poem in front of attendances at the ceremony.I don't think that I can write such an outstanding poem.

JAL
I took a JAL flight from Osaka to Tokyo last night. I usually takeANA flights so it was rare to take the JAL flight. The departuretime was 7:30 pm, but I arrived at the nearby station ten minutesbefore the time. Therefore, my reservation canceled once. I wasrelieved that my seat came back finally.

Walking
Kiko is recovering her physical condition smoothly. We walked all theway to the usual ice cream shop this afternoon. I shared an ice creamwith raisin with my wife. She is short of exercise, so she seemed tobe a little tired after the walk although the distance from our houseto the shop is not so far.

Holiday
I took a holiday the day before yesterday because I attended theconference which was held in Tokyo on Sunday. I went to her kindergartenin order to meet my daughter with my wife. She seemed to be happy becauseI held her in my hands while we came home. Unfortunately she cought acold at night, so she went to a hospital on the next day.

Three times in a week
I moved to Kyoto to attend the other conference after a businessmeeting at one of factories of our company in Tochigi. It is quiterare that I give presentations as well as join the conferences threetimes in a week. To prepare the talks was very hard, but it isinteresting to discuss various topics with many researchers.

Trains in Tokyo
I attended the conference and gave a presentation at Waseda Universitythis afternoon. After the conference I moved to Tochigi prefecturebecause I have a meeting with my colleagues, but it took long time.There are a lot of kinds of trains and transfer of the trains is verycomplicated in Tokyo area.

I got The Japan Institute of Metals The Best Paper Award this year.The technical paper was based on my research at the University ofOxford. The professor made many comments and revised the manuscriptfor me. I'll send the co-authors the certificate of commendationI received at the conference the day before yesterday in Okinawa.

Naha
I was going to go sightseeing in Naha this morning, but I gave up doingthat due to a heavy rain. I went to the convention center directlyfrom the hotel in a taxi to attend the conference. I gave my presentationafter I had a lunch there and then I moved to the airport. It was funthat I had a dinner with some teachers and many students last night.

I went to luxury stores where we can buy jewels without tax in Okinawatoday. I was looking for necklaces and rings with diamonds. I talkedto sales assistants at the Tiffany and Cartier and decided to buyTiffany's necklace. I remembered that I had bought a necklace for mywife at the Tiffany's home store in New York before we got married.

Okinawa
I go to Okinawa to attend a conference next week. It is the first timefor me to go to the main island of Okinawa although I've been to theMiyako island with my wife about ten years ago. The conference is heldat a convention center and I have a room reservation of the nearby hotel.The hotel is a resort hotel but it is not convenient to access tosightseeing areas.

My wife and daughters went to the oldest daughter's school today.They left our home in the early morning. I got up very late andate a lunch box my wife had made for me in the morning. An annualbazaar was held at the school. My daughters showed me some itemsthey had bought there.

I usually watch a TV drama on Wednesday evening every week, having adinner alone. A Japanese popular actress acts the leading character,a housekeeper. She is too perfunctory and never laugh, whereas shecan do anything. It is funny that her bag has all requirements.

Lecture
A professor from Ibaraki University came to our company to give alecture today. Unfortunately I could join the meeting for only onehour because I had to attend another meeting. After the lecturewe went to have a dinner at a Japanese restaurant near Tarumistation. Sea bream was very delicious.

Electric lamp
Weekly English lesson with Jason was skipped this weekend because hisschedule could not be adjusted. A few weeks ago an electric lamp onour house's entrance run down, so I went to buy a new one. It is veryannoying to change the light bulb frequently, so I wanted to buy along-life bulb. However, the bulb was so large that I didn't buy anyproducts today.

Last train
I took the last Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-kobe last night. Since Idon't like to take the Shinkansen on the way back to Kobe, I usuallytake an airplane. However, it was expected that I would not be able tocatch the airplane yesterday. When I arrived at my house, it was pastmidnight. It was quite busy business trip.

I'm in Tokyo. I has some meetings at one of our company's factoriesin Shimonoseki today. After today's work I moved to the Kitakyusyuairport to take an airplane bound for Tokyo. It was not so crowdedwith passengers. I have meetings at the head office near this hoteltomorrow.

Two festivals
We joined our company's annual festival today. We join the event everyyear, but unfortunately we had to leave there in a short time becausethere was a music festival at the shopping mall. Kiko and her friendssang songs in front of many audiences. The songs were very impressiveand I was proud of her efforts.

Recently I bought an IC card which allows me to take many kinds ofpublic transports without tickets. It is quite convenient but riskybecause anyone can use very easily even if the person has no money.I have to pay attention prevent from losing my wallet with the card.

Trip to Niigata
I went to Niigata prefecture to visit Nagaoka University of Technologytoday. It takes more than five hours from Kobe to Niigata if we takethe Shinkansen. I took airplanes both ways, but I could not take anANA flight to go there because there was no flight at a time mostconvenient. So I took a JAL flight after a long interval.

Ice cream shop
I walk to an ice cream shop with my daughters this afternoon.Koto and Kiko choose tiramisu and white chocolate taste respectively.It was a little hot today so we had pleasant tastes. The shop wasrelatively crowded with customers. The hot weather must have broughtpeople there.

I usually choose ANA's flight to take an airplane. Currently I havemore than 100000 frequent flier points and a platinum member status.Next long flight will be from Kobe to Naha in Okinawa in November.I may upgrade the economy-class ticket to the business class.

Annual event
I heard that Koto caught a cold and was absent from school last Thursdayand Friday. She joined Kiko's sports festival yesterday, but had a fevertoday. Fortunately tomorrow is national holiday so she can take a restwhole day. She falls sick this season every year.

Flight delayed
I came back home safely. German domestic flight from Bremen to Frankfurtdelayed for about 45 minutes. One hour was originally scheduled totransfer the airplane at Frankfurt, so I almost missed the connectingflight to Tokyo. I had to stay for one night near the airport due tosimilar situation two years ago. It was lucky to avoid the same trouble.

I'm in Bremen, Germany now. The conference I attened from Wednesdayhas finished and I'm waiting for my return flight at the airport.I bought an English book which is the Bremen Town Musicians for mykids today. I take a flight to Frankfurt soon and transfer to theconnecting flight to Tokyo. I'll work and sleep in the flight.

The regular season in the Major League Baseball was over yesterday.Some games were extremely dramatic results and two teams in the bothAmerican and National league caught the final chance to proceed thedivision series. The matches begin from tomorrow. Watching baseballis really fun.

Next week
I will go on a business trip to Bremen, Germany as scheduled nextweek. I will leave the Kansai airport on Tuesday morning and comeback to the Itami airport via Narita on Saturday. On the return datethere is sports festival of Kiko's kindergarten. I come back homeat night, so I cannot see her on the ground unfortunately unlessthe event is postponed due to rain.

I had to work although today is Saturday because there were twonational holidays this week. Train and cafe
Today's business meeting in Nagoya started from 4pm. I moved there fromUtsunomiya by the Shinkansen and arrived at Nagoya station at about 10minutes past 1pm. I went to a restaurant and cafe in the building builtover the station. It was good that I could focus on reading some Englishtechnical literatures in the train and at the cafe.

Shut down
The big strong typhoon made landfall today. The Shinkansen shut downdue to the heavy rain and strong wind. Therefore, I gave up returninghome tonight. I made a hotel reservation near Utsunomiya station andthen went to a restaurant with my colleague. I have a meeting at NagoyaInstitute of Technology tomorrow afternoon, so I'll go there well inadvance by the Shinkansen.

I went to Yokohama National University for the first time to discusswith a professor today. I had a heavy rain in Kansai area and my youngerdaughter's kindergarten was closed, while it didn't rain in Yokohama.We went out for a drink after the discussion, and then I moved toUtsunomiya by the Shinkansen to attend some meetings tomorrow.

Well-trained
We went to Koto's school to see the sports festival today. Her privateschool has elementary, junior high and high schools. All students ofthe schools joined the event and played various kinds of sports atthe same ground. I was impressed that they all were well-trained.I recognized that the sports festival is quite important event at theschools.

The weather was sometimes good this morning, but the sports festivalat Koto's school was postponed today. She didn't go to school becauseheavy rain warning was given against Himeji area early morning.I knew today that some of students commute to the school from the area.It seems to be fine tomorrow, so we will go there to support her.

We went to a bread shop instead of the ice cream shop I said hereyesterday. The bread shop is the place I usually take English lessonsevery Saturday. We can have some kinds of snowcone there. We orderedtwo snowcones and my daughters shared one. They looked very happy.
