Bush Administration Says No Plans to Attack Iran
レポーターの英語はスピードはあるけど、わかりやすい。レポーターの部分は難易度３くらいだけど、それに比べると、スノー報道官の英語はなんていうかちょっとわかりにくく感じました。チェックした単語が多すぎて・・・難易度は４にしました。
音声、一部、ぶちっと来るところがあって、「へえ、珍しく編集に失敗？」と思っていたら、元の音声もぶちってしてました（笑）。失礼しました～。
今回チェックした単語は初めて見た、というよりも、過去にチェックした単語のオンパレード。ニュース頻出単語がてんこ盛りでした。
allegedly：[sentence adverb] formal
used when reporting something that people say is true, although it has not been proved:
a sports car, allegedly stolen in Manchester

to state that someone will not be able to take part in a sports event
↑LDOCEの定義。微妙に今回のと違うような感じなので、OALDでも調べてみました。↓

But the president also is not going to rule out any alternatives.

That assertion was repeated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
stoke：to cause something to increase
sectarian：sectarian violence/conflict/murder
violence etc that is related to the strong feelings of people who belong to different religious groups
trouble between two or more people or groups [= conflict]
ethnic/religious/civil etc strife
Iran has denied it is attempting to stoke sectarian strife in Iraq by arming the country's Shiite militants against minority Sunni fighters - or against U.S. troops.
defiant：clearly refusing to do what someone tells you to do
halt：[transitive]
to prevent someone or something from continuing - used especially in news reports [= stop]
Iran remains defiant regarding United Nations demands that it halt its nuclear program
if someone in authority imposes a rule, punishment, tax etc, they force people to accept it
despite U.N, sanctions imposed late last year barring the transfer of nuclear materials and technology to the Islamic republic.
