It looks absurd that online postings about Olympic game became abruptly favorable from critical on the day one year before the Olympic game. I must confess that as I saw panjandrums creatingcountless confusion and troubles, doing no good for nation, I felt that our country invited Olympic game for vanity and quick buck in the end, But it seems to be time I have to resign and welcome -Are there somebody else who thought the similar thing? One of the things I wonder is what if typhoons come during the Olympic period. Now today's main story.
I still wonder what the significance of sports is when I see those news: For the past couples of years, various athletes and grapplers expose power-harassment and violence by managers and coaches. There are female athletes suffering from eating disorder. Not only professional sports scenes -at schools, power-harassment and violence by teachers and managers at extracurricular club activities, and long and excessive training bursting students are revealed one after another. In summer, heat stroke at P.E. classes and extracurricular club activities remain rife-how many students will be killed until adults learn? Recently, teachers' overwork due to extracurricular club activities is a major problem, but this is not a story for today. As is already pointed out, children's society -especially school is a microcosm of adults' society. If adults want to maintain the significance of sports in the future, at least they must stop passing down violence and unreasonable rank relationships and meaningless guts supermacism.
I recalled a TV program about children who were sent to a diver's training institute in the neighboring Continent country - the program was focusing on one of those girls; every day, she was practicing to exhaustion under invective instructors in the daytime, and went to attached school in the evening.
At that time, I wondered what if the girl wasn't selected to go to Olympic game. Needless to bring up tragic examples of children who are crushed by excessive education and parents' self-indulgence expectations, do you want to churn out such children in order to boost national prestige?
I never say that P.E. classes at school must be abolished, because education consists of intellectual education, physical education and moral education
. I wondered why children good at art and music are not appreciated as highly as children good at sports
. There are musicians active after sixties, but there are few athletes on the active list in their forties or fifties or later. Although it's simply because I wasn't good at P.E. and I didn't take extracurricular club activities of sports at school, I've wondered why people who belonged to sports clubs in schooltime are made more of in society.
Sports could be useful to develop teamwork, a favorite term of our nation. But if leaders and members of a sports team are obsessed with negative competition only in order to win, and bully members unable to perform well, can you regard such teams as teams? If the significance of sports is health-promotion, it's a great loss for whole nation that children grow up to dislike exercise due to bitter memories of P.E. classes and extracurricular club activities.
If they want to use sports and exercise to display national prestige, what they must provide is not ostentatious national stadium but outdoor playgrounds for children.
As is already proved, growing children's physical ability is developed by playing outside -not by sports
; they can build up physical strength, but the training is imbalance, and sense of obligation is brought first. But in this society, children playing outdoors are regarded as noise source. -Such thoughts came up when I read that case examples are increasing rapidly that children cannot control their own motion and get injured badly from simple motion
, such as wiping the floor and running a little bit.
