でも自信があったつもりの英作文、14点中8点しか取れてなかった。
書きやすい話題と思い、ついつい調子に乗って書きすぎたかも？
ちょっと表現に工夫したつもりが、文法にミスがあったのでしょう。
さて、もちろんスピーキングも自信ありません。
２次まで時間は少ないですが、頑張って対策しなきゃ・・・

Office Chitchat (4)
Shiga is impressed by his colleagues' ability to chat, and everyone comments on what it takes to be a good conversationalist.

opt to [ ～することを選ぶ
=to choose one thing or do one thing instead of another

medieval [ 中世の
=connected with the Middle Ages (=the period between about AD 1100 and 1500)

ferroconcrete 　[ 鉄筋コンクリート

surveillance [ 監視、見張り
=when the police, army, etc watch a person or place carefully because they may be connected with criminal activities

floodlight [ 投光照明
=a very bright light that is used to light the outside of a building or sports ground at night:

"Floodlights" are very intensely bright and they have a very wide beam. They flood an area with light and so they are called "floodlights

incidentally [ 偶然に、付随的に、ところで、ちなみに
=used to add more information to what you have just said, or to introduce a new subject that you have just thought of [= by the way]:

"Incidentally" is very similar to "by the way." They are both ways to change the conversation to a different focus. They don't introduce the most important point.

"Given half a chance" means not really given much of an opportunity, but any possibility for an opportunity will be taken.

A lot of people carry photos, but not everyone will show them to you at the drop of a hat.

=immediately and without pausing to think about what you are going to do:

"Water cooler" is usually where there is free water for everybody in the office to drink. It's a symbol of break time or relaxing time when you are at the office. And so, it also implies gossip or office gossip. Another word you can use for gossip is "scuttlebutt." And that word also has the meaning of water cooler, but a scuttlebutt was a water barrel on a gohip.

= used when you disagree with someone or criticize them in a polite way:
