Our aconite which we planted several years ago had only a stem of flowers this year.
開く直前のつぼみは、紫が暗めに見えました。
Purple colour of the buds just before they opened looked darker.
私がはじめてトリカブトという植物の存在を知ったのは、昔、日本語訳で読んだアガサ・クリスティの小説でした。そう言えば英語でトリカブトはどう呼ばれているのだろうと見てみたら、おぉ！いろいろとあるんですね！
・monkshood (monk's hood)：僧侶の被りもの
・wolfsbane (wolf's bane)：狼の毒（昔、狼の駆除に使われたから・・だとか）
・leopardsbane (leopard's bane)：豹の毒（豹を駆除したのかしらん？）
・womensbane (women's bane)：女性の毒（むむ... ？）
・blue rocket：青いロケット
よく使われるのは「monkshood」のようです。他の名前には他の植物にも使われているものもあって、ややこしいですね。
The plant seems to have various nicknames in English as above. I wonder which name was used in the novel by Agatha Christie which I read in Japanese translation when I was young. It was in that novel I first learnt about this poisonous plant with lovely flowers.
