『カリブの海賊』のコレクターズエディションＤＶＤを注文しました。ここ数週間迷った末の決断です。これを使ってリスニングをすることにしました。“カリブの海賊を英語で聞こう！プロジェクト”です。
（１）ディクテ、（２）不明個所の字幕確認、（３）語、用法の確認、（４）シャドーイング でやっていこうと思っています。
◆1◆ロンドン最新ドレス◆
大人になったエリザベスがまだ寝ている部屋に、エリザベスの父がやってきます。
父：Elizabeth? Are you alright? Are you decent?
エ：Yes, yes!
父： Still abed at this hour? It's a beautiful day. I have a gift for you.
エ： Oh, it's beautiful!
父: Isn't it?
◇decent は「きちんとした、ちゃんとしている、適正な」。Are you decent? は「ちゃんと服を着ていますか？」（朝なのでエリザベスはまだ寝巻き姿かもしれない）＝「部屋に入ってもいいですか？」の意。
◇abed は「就床して」の形容詞。I'm still abed. は「まだ床から起きていません」。
突然ステキなドレスをくれた父に、エリザベスは「ドレスをくれる理由は？」と聞くと、「父親が娘に贈り物をするのに理由が要るのかね？」と答える父。でも、やっぱり理由があったんです。
エ：May I inquire as to the occasion?
父： Does a father need an occasion to dote upon his daughter? Actually, I, um… I had hoped you might wear it for the ceremony today.
エ：The ceremony?
父：Captain Norrington's promotion ceremony.
エ：I knew it!
◇ここの朱字は全部聞きとれませんでした。as to～は「～について」。文字で見れば分かるんだけど……。
◇wear はイギリス発音のせいか、私にはwereと聞こえてしまい、文意が推測できなかった部分。
父の企みは、エリザベスにこのロンドン最新ファッションのドレスを着せ、エリザベスに気があるノリントンの提督就任式典に出席させようというものでした。
父： Commodore Norrington, as he's about to become.
A fine gentleman, don't you think? He fancies you. Elizabeth? How's it coming?
エ: It's difficult to say.
父: I'm told it's the latest fashion in London.
エ: Well, women in London must've learned not to breathe.
召使: Milord, you have a visitor.
◇Commodore はこの映画では何度も出てくる「提督」の意。
◇be about to は be going to よりもっと差し迫った未来で、「今にも～しようとしている」。だから tomorrow などとは一緒に使いません。ここの as は理由ですね。
◇fancy は「～を好む、性的にひきつけられている」
