芝生化奮闘記

　東京の友人と話をしたら、小6の息子が少年野球チームに入っていて、今は朝8時頃から夕方7時まで毎日練習しているそうです。

 　2-3日前の猛暑日の練習中に別な子どもがふらふらしていて、どうも熱中症らしくて、練習を見ていたお母さんが心配で「ちょっと休ませて」と監督に言ったら、その監督が「根性のないお宅の子供はチームに迷惑がかかるからもう練習に来なくて結構だ」という返事だったそうです。

　病院に行ったらやはり軽い熱中症ということで点滴を打って家に帰えりました。翌日は調子が良くなっていたのでまたも練習に参加したとい話だった。

　悪いけど自分が昔野球をやっていたということだけでその野球チームの監督をやっているオヤジが子供のとこをあんなふうに扱う権利はなぜ発生しているでしょうか。

　そいつはそれで野球をしてきたのでそれしか知らない無知なオヤジで結構だけど自分の大事な子供が危険な目に合っていても文句を言わない親が責任を感じないでしょうか。

　いったいどんな状況になったら我が子と守ろうとするでしょうか。やはり、そのチームのひとりが熱中症で死んでからでしょうか。

　情けない。

 The Grade 6 son of a friend in Tokyo who plays baseball in a local little league team has training from around 8AM to 7PM every day now the summer holidays have started.

 At training a couple of days ago, another child was dizzy and complaining of mild heat exhaustion, at which his mother asked the coach to let her son rest for a spell. The coach's response was that because her son lacked the right drive to succeed, he did not deserve to be a member of the team and should thus not bother coming back.

 The child spent a couple of hours at hospital having an IV drip and was allowed to go home. The next morning, the son feeling better now, he headed off to training again.

 Forgive me for wondering just who gave the coach of this team, in the post purely because he had played baseball as a kid, the right to abuse other people's children in this manner. 

  This is the only style of coaching that this ignorant person knows so perhaps can't be helped but why does the parent of a child thus being exposed to danger without complaining not accept any responsibility?

  What will it take before parents stand up to protect their children? Maybe it will take the death of one of the team.

 Pathetic.
