今になって知り得たことを書きましたが

また別の歌について

私にとっての新たな発見がありました

【Ｓｃａｂｏｒｏｕｇｈ　Ｆａｉｒ　】といえば

サイモン＆ガーファンクルの素晴らしいハーモニーで有名になった

誰もが知っている歌ですが･･･

これってイギリスに中世から伝わるｔｒａｄｉｔｉｏｎａｌ　ｓｏｎｇであり　

『きらきら星』『ロンドン橋落ちた』　『メリーさんの羊』などと同じ

Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme ･･･

繰り返し出てくるこの歌詞

呪文のような不思議な歌詞だと思いつつ

どっちかといえばメロディに惹かれていた私は

あれこれ追求することがありませんでした

『キラキラ星』などは イギリスの古い民謡 という認識しかなく

それらが『マザーグースの歌』であることも知らなかったし

それ以前に『マザーグースの歌』というものも

名前を知っていただけで

それが何たるかを把握していなかったというのが

大きな要因なのでしょう
