This week is Teacher and Staff appreciation week at my sons’ school. Monday was bus driver appreciation. Our bus driver is a really great guy. He’s young, but man is he on top of things! He is always polite and learned the kids’ names the first week.
I wasn’t sure what to get him. I have no idea what a guy who looks to be in his mid-20’s wants. Flowers would seem weird. And I have no idea if he likes cookies. And then it hit me. I remembered Otto, the Simpson’s bus driver!
That guy loved to Rock n’ Roll! I figured, what young guy wouldn’t appreciate a little iTune credit? In addition to the gift card, I made a 3-D YOU ROCK Cardto hold an i-Tunes gift card using the Silhouette. (If you don’t have a Silhouette, you can use a computer print out and an x-acto knife to cut out the letters.
Welcome back to the Teacher Appreciation Gift Idea Series! All this week, we’ll have simple and inexpensive last minute gift ideas for the teachers in your life.
Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas:
Decorated Chalkboard | Thank You for Nurturing My Child Plant | Apple Pencil Holder | You Rock Gift 3D Card | Simple Washi Tape Vases
Materials:
(contains affiliate links)
- Silhouette Electronic Cutter
- Shimmery cardstock paper
- CD Window Envelope
- X-acto knife
- iTunes Gift Card
Instructions:
Open your Silhouette software and type “YOU ROCK”. (I used the font Impact.) Draw a rectangle around the words 4.75″ x 9.5″.
Use the eraser tool to remove the left hand side of each letter. (Be sure to select treat unfilled object as outline in the eraser tool window on the right.)
On the left side of your rectangle, draw a shape the size of your gift card. Add angled lines for slits (to hold the gift card.)
Delete the gift card box so only the slits remain.
Load your cardstock paper into the Silhouette machine. Send your file to cut and remove the paper.
Gently remove the centers of letters and push the letters up from the card. Use the x-acto knife to gently score along the left of each letter (where you erased the lines.) Do not cut through the paper, the score will give you a clean fold for your letters to bend on.
Turn the card over and bend the letters up.
Fold your card in half.
Insert the gift card into the slits inside the card.
Insert the card into the CD envelope. It’s all ready to be presented to that rockin’ school bus driver (or teacher) in your life! I might just have to make a few more for my teenage brothers when their birthdays roll around! They’re too cool to read my blog, so I’m safe telling you that ;-).
Could this be a more simple gift? And yet, it has a graphic coolness to it that any hipster would love (do they say “hip” anymore? Maybe I should say any dope guy?)
Who do you know that would love a 3-D You Rock card?
Need another gift idea for a guy? How about these personalized tree slice coasters :

Love this card! Such a creative use of the eraser tool…. I’m definitely going to have to try this technique out.
And I’m hosting the giveaway on my blog, as well, for the first time this month! I just might be a little TOO excited about it. (You’ll see that from my crazy photo that I shared.) I mean, can you blame me? This is a Silhouette we get to give away!
