Performance

With fantastic fuel economy, a gutsy engine, and phenomenal ride quality, there is a lot to love about the 2013 Honda CR-V . Every trim is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. It is good for 185 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. While this will not win you any races, it will keep you confident while passing and merging on the highway. Unfortunately, this engine can only tow 1,500 pounds, so those with a heavier trailer will have to look elsewhere. On the positive side, this engine does return 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, and numbers only drop by 1 mpg for all-wheel drive. A five-speed automatic is standard, and although a little behind the times, it shifts smoothly, so you really cannot complain. If you are nervous about handling the size of a crossover, you will find CR-V to be about as easy to drive as a small sedan. The turning circle is only 37.3 feet, so even parking in those tight spaces will not be too tricky. You will also appreciate the four-wheel independent suspension that ensures a smooth ride for all passengers.

Technology

• SMS - CR-Vis available with a SMS text messaging function, which reads your incoming messages through the audio system.
• Rear Seat Entertainment - EX-L models can have an optional DVD rear seat entertainment system added with a seven-inch display and wireless headphones.
• Navigation - The Honda-Satellite Linked Navigation System is voice-activated and recognizes more than 750 commands. Getting directions has never been so easy.
• Audio - The four-speaker audio system on the base model is a bit of a disappointment, but a seven-speaker upgrade is available, which features satellite radio, USB audio interface, and steering wheel controls.

Safety

If safety is a top concern, you will be happy with everything the 2013 Honda CR-Vhas to offer. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it with a -Good- rating in roof, front, and side-impact crash tests. When braking was put to the test, the results were equally as impressive. The vehicle can stop from 60 mph in only 120 feet, which is quite short for a vehicle in this segment. A few safety features include:
• Backup camera
• Stability control
• Engine immobilizer
• Tire pressure monitoring
• Traction control
• Anti-theft system
• Dusk sensing headlamps
• Electronic brakeforce distribution
• Child seat anchors
• Rear door safety locks
• Four-wheel antilock brakes
• Daytime running lamps

Appearance

Honda CR-Vwas fully redesigned for 2012, so not much needed to change for 2013. This is a sophisticated looking crossover without being overly flashy. Although the base model is attractive, those opting for an EX model enjoy 17-inch wheels, rear privacy glass, and a sunroof to really dress it up a little. The front end is a little simple, but the rounded backend distinguishes it from others on the road.

Comfort

You really cannot ask for a more thoughtfully created cabin, especially at this price. The layout is logical, and although simple, the soft lines give it a modern, yet organic feel. That empty wasted space between the front seats in previous models is now put to good use with a much-needed storage compartment. There is more than enough leg and head room in both rows and that old sliding rear seat has been replaced with a super convenient seat that boasts an auto-fold feature. This gives easy and fast access to the cargo space when you need it.

Cargo

One of the top-selling points of CR-Vis the cargo space. That unique, rounded backend allows you to take full advantage of the space back there, unlike other models that go for an aerodynamic look at the expense of practicality. With the rear seat up you enjoy 37.2 cubic feet. Fold it down and you are awarded with an impressive 70.9 cubes.
