Performance

Most people shopping for the 2013 Jeep Wrangler are strictly looking for a vehicle with superior off-road performance. This is an SUV that sets the bar that other so-called off-road contenders have to try to live up to. Whether you are traveling over rocky terrain or trying to get to the other side of a swamp, Wrangler will get you where you need to go. The standard 3.6-liter V6 is good for 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, as is four-wheel drive. A five-speed automatic transmission is available though. Most people driving Wrangler for the first time are surprised at how quick it really is as it can accelerate zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, with a manual transmission. On the downside, fuel economy is horrible, returning 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway regardless of transmission. As for driving goes; don’t expect a smooth and luxurious ride Wrangler is made for bumpy terrain so the suspension does not cater to the paved road. Both road and wind noise are both definite concerns.

Technology

• Audio - The base audio system features six speakers, CD player, audio jack and steering wheel music controls. There is an upgraded option that is standard on the Sahara trim that features an Alpine® premium audio system.
• Bluetooth - This optional feature allows you to communicate hands-free using the voice-activated system. Send, receive and end calls without taking your hands off the wheel.
• SiriusXM - Standard on the higher trims is a 1-year subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio. Enjoy over 130 channels of crystal clear and commercial-free music, sports broadcasting and talk radio.

Safety

Although the 2013 Jeep Wrangler gets a “Good” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for frontal-offset, it receives the worst possible rating in side-impact. Don’t expect any rollover protection as a convertible model either. Braking is also poor, taking a long 140 feet to stop from 60 mph. Some safety features worth mentioning include:

Appearance

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most easily recognized vehicles on the road, from any angle. This is a vehicle that can be customized beyond belief with the top, doors and aftermarket accessories. Its rugged exterior means business and Sport gives you 16-inch steel wheels, removable soft top and tow hooks while Sahara bumps the wheels to 18 inches and adds body-colored fender flares and side steps. Rubicon gets special off-road features and exclusive 32-inch tires with 17-inch wheels.

Comfort

The cabin may be boring and simple, but it is practical. You are not afraid to splash a little mud inside because surfaces clean up easy. If you have drove older models then you will notice that Wrangler now offers a more refined and organic feel with rounded lines, but it doesn’t take away from its masculinity. Although this is a four-passenger vehicle, nearly everyone knows that adult passengers in the back have minimal legroom. On the positive side, the soft top is a little easier to use for 2013, but the potential for theft has always been a concern. There is an optional hard top, but it will cost you!

Cargo

Few people buy a Wrangler expecting much in terms of cargo capacity. With the rear seats in place, it is almost nonexistent at 12.8 cubic feet, but fold the seats flat and you will get 55 cubes.
