Performance

The first thing that many will find interesting about the newly resigned 2013 Land Rover Ranger Rover SUV is that it weighs about 700 pounds less than its predecessor. This is sure to be appreciated at the pump a bit, but not as much as you would expect. A responsive and powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine mates with an eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver 375 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. Despite the large size of this vehicle, zero to 60 mph is accomplished in a brisk 6.5 seconds, and it offers a top speed of 130 mph. As mentioned, the body is light, but fuel economy is still poor at 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. This SUV comes equipped with Terrain Response® technology to instantly reconfigure traction, transmission and suspension settings based on terrain. Its permanent four-wheel drive ensures that Range Rover is always ready for changing road and weather conditions, and it even features an electronic cross-linked air suspension that enhances handling as well.

Technology

• Navigation - The hard disk drive satellite system is incredibly easy to use yet very thorough. It offers both on and off road capabilities, greater map coverage and even off-road guidance.
• Audio - The available Meridian sound system features 380 watts of power, 13 loudspeakers, a dual channel subwoofer, digital signal processing, USB sockets, auxiliary power sockets and an 8-inch high resolution touchscreen.
• Voice Control - The “Say What You See” voice control system is intuitive to say the least. It learns from past preferences made to offer suggestions and prompts on commands you are likely to use. It can control your radio, navigation, USB/auxiliary connections and more.

Safety

Although the 2013 Range Rover has not been crash tested yet by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Land Rover line is typically thought of as being safe. Not to mention, last year’s model could stop from 60 mph in only 121 feet. Just a few of the many safety features you will appreciate on this SUV include:
• Active speed limiter
• Engine immobilizer
• Heavy braking hazard lights
• Power-operated child locks
• Stability control with rollover sensors
• Parking sensors
• Hill descent control
• Rearview camera
• Traction control
• Emergency braking assist
• Adaptive front lighting
• Blind spot monitoring
• Tire pressure monitoring
• Post collision safety system
• Dusk sensing headlamps
• Electronic brakeforce distribution

Appearance

The exterior is fully redesigned for 2013, and just like previous models, you will either love or hate it. The signature interlocking circles of Range Rover are displayed on the front in bold LED graphics while LED rear lamps take a distinctive graphic square pattern. It remains its boxy self, but the lines do seem a little softer. The windshield is a bit more steeply raked as well.

Comfort

As you would expect from Land Rover, the passenger cabin of the Range Rover echoes of sophistication from one end to the other. It is evident that a significant amount of thought has gone into every detail of this vehicle; from its gorgeous heated leather steering wheel to its smart three-zone climate control. Due to the wheelbase being 42 mm longer, there is more than 1 meter of legroom for rear seat passengers. The front seats are plush yet supportive, and although this is a five-passenger vehicle there is a two-seat rear seating package available.

Cargo

With rear seats in position, there is 32.1 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the rear seats down to enjoy 71.7 cubes. Also, when you stick with the standard rear bench seat, you will appreciate one-touch operation to fold the seat flat.
