Performance

For whatever reason, most people look at the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque SUV, and assume that its powered by a gas-guzzling V8 engine, but it’s not. It is actually powered by a fuel-efficient turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This just goes to show you that looks can be deceiving. A six-speed automatic is standard, helping the vehicle deliver 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. Range Rover Evoque can reach 60 mph in only 7.4 seconds, while returning 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. This is not necessarily great for the in-city driver, but those with a highway commute will surely be impressed. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available. When you take the vehicle for a test drive, the first thing you will notice is how well it handles. With only a 37.1-foot turning circle, it makes it easy to maneuver and park in tight spaces. It handles beautifully, offering a smooth and composed ride, flawless shifting and fantastic acceleration; it’s hard to find anything to complain about, when it comes to performance.

Technology

• Audio - Although the standard 11-speaker sound system is already impressive, Land Rover teamed with Meridian® to offer a 17-speaker system with 10-disc CD changer, 280 watts of power, subwoofer and iPod interface.
• Navigation - As part of the Premium package, the hard drive navigation system offers a 4x4 information and off-road mapping in addition to on-road maps and turn-by-turn navigation.
• Rear Seat Entertainment - This entertainment system features two 8-inch screens, which are placed on the back of the front seats’ headrests. It comes with a touchscreen remote and two sets of wireless digital headphones.

Safety

Crash test ratings are not yet available for the 2013 Range Rover Evoque, nor were they last year. However, this vehicle has phenomenal braking capabilities, taking a very short 118 feet to stop from 60 mph. To provide passengers with the highest level of protection, a high-strength safety cell encloses the cabin, and then there are plenty of safety features, such as:
• Trailer sway control
• Stability control
• Rearview camera
• Traction control
• Parking sensors
• Child seat anchors
• Tire pressure monitoring
• Remote anti-theft alarm
• Turn signals
• Seatbelt pretensioners
• Dusk sensing headlamps
• Electronic brakeforce distribution
• High-pressure washers headlamps
• Emergency braking assist

Appearance

Most people think of Land Rover and picture boxy, military-looking vehicles, but Range Rover Evoque breaks these rules with an aerodynamic body and plenty of soft lines. Plus, with fun colors like Colima Lime, Mauritius Blue and Firenze Red Metallic, it’s hard not to be drawn in. Privacy glass around reduces theft and helps to control the cabin temperature. Then, you notice plenty of other details, such as vents on the bonnet, jewel-like rear lamps, a glossy black waist finisher and rear spoiler.

Comfort

From the Morzine roof-liner in ivory or ebony to the classy carpet mats with edging, this passenger cabin is full of “wow” moments. Interior mood lighting is easily adjusted to suit your mood from white to blue to red, and the center console offers space for two large cup holders and discreet storage. You will also quickly notice the “floating” center stack, and although the layout is classy, it can come off as a bit technical. Front seats are comfortable and supportive with plenty of legroom, but when you get in the back you find a claustrophobic and cramped feel with minimal leg and headroom.

Cargo

All you get behind the rear seat is 19.4 cubic feet of cargo space. Even when you fold the rear seats down, you only get 51 cubes, which is far behind the competition.
